Oh well,. if my IP3000 printhead dies,

@Artur5, the best way to look after your beautiful iP3000, is to use it constantly, that has two effects, 1) the print head gets regular workouts with the ink flowing through it, 2) and then there’s no need to do any extra cleaning cycles either, because the head will keep itself in perfect working order, clog free.

It’s a bit odd when you think about it, that the more work you give the print head the longer it will last, most would think it’s the opposite way around..

I’m afraid that brand new genuine IP3000 printheads won’t be available for long.
Just checked that reliable French site which had plenty of QY6-0064 heads a few months ago and now they’re all gone. Zero stock. Status says ‘on demand’. This usually means that Canon is no longer supplying this part.
Oh well,. if my IP3000 printhead dies, I’m gonna fetch a tough B&W laser printer and refill the toner instead of the cartridge. Powder mess vs. liquid mess. Not much difference really.

Yes - offers are fewer than last year. If you still want to buy a 0064 for your own stock, see ebay item nr 141182466544 - seems to come from a reliable german source.

PS: while this is most probably a refurbished one, sold as new OEM: 162984624086
PPS: but besides I just have learned that the wrong french spelling "Tete d'Impreeion" on the box is the same on Canon OEM...

It looks like the QY6-0064 is still available from a reliable German supplier.

Edit: It seems to be the same as one of the Ebay offers.

The iP4300 uses the QY6-0061 print head. Other models that use this print head are iP5200, MP600, MP800 and MP830. Some of these models also come in an R-suffix version. The R-suffix version is identical to the standard model except for added network connectivity.

Good luck in finding one of these high quality printers.

Actually, I see them fairly frequently on the local Craigslist; checking this morning I found an iP5200 and an MP600, though both are just enough of a drive that I might wait until something closer comes along.

The 0064 printhead is another matter. I think I may have recently gotten one of the last remaining new ones. :-(

There's no shortage of "new OEM" (cleaned, recycled) and "refurbished" (cleaned, recycled) Canon printheads from China. For what they cost, and often much less, you should be able to find a similar used printer locally. Just keep looking.

This got me to wondering, do Canon print heads wear out? I'm presuming:

1. Always having quality ink in the system. Never run dry.
2. No electrical failures. Obviously, this can't be controlled for. The luck of the draw. Or, Irish, eh?

The answer is yes and no, Canon print heads do die, regardless of how you threat them, they are software controlled to self-destruct after firing a certain amount of ink, age has no bearing on the older heads, but the newer heads I reckon have a limited time stamp...

Canon pint heads "die" for several reasons.

The most common (IMO) is the extreme current duty imposed on the microelectronics and microconductors in the print head nozzle "die" (no pun intended). To increase the life of a thermal (eg, Canon) print head:

PRINT SLOWER! (use "night" or "quite" mode in the driver all the time).

IF PRINTING MULTIPLE PAGES, INCREASE DRYING TIME IN THE DRIVER TO MAXIMUM! This allows the print head to cool between pages.

NEVER PRINT WITH NO/LOW INK!
