FLUSHING....WHY?

Another thing I noticed between the two sponge materials used in the carts is the top sponge is made of a much less dense (Course) material, where as the bottom one is more compact and smoother to the touch. (Finger test).

Thank you for comparison, this seems to correspond with the different functionality of lower and upper sponge

The behavior of the top sponge would be expected to be different if the top sponge was still clean. After it gets saturated, does it accept or reject ink on subsequent refills?

I thought the top sponge takes on ink but after minkling's photos I am not sure. Now that we've been discussing this, the next time I refill I will pay more attention.

Would this be best done outside?

At first I did this in my garage but then as I saw what was happening I now do it in basement where I do all my refilling. Just make sure are whirling it a vertical circular pattern. I learned on my first try whirling it in a horizontal plane over my head. Lowered my arm when I thought I was done and got smacked in the head.

I was thinking more along the lines that the centrifugally removed water might leave the sock and spray all over the room walls, floor and ceiling.

That's why you first wrap the set of carts in a paper towel that has been folded over into several thickness's. The check the paper towel after several whirls and you will see you may need to replace the paper towel. When the paper towel is no longer getting saturated then you are probably getting close to being ready to refill......

I guess it depends on much of the water or pharmacists solution you remove from the cart before doing this centrifuge thing. I draw most of the liquid out through the exit port on the cart using the one of my flushing clips hooked up to a large syringe and them give it a quick weight chk just to make sure Im ready to whirl out the remaining.

Print heads can also benefit from the @pearlhouse drying method..

besides drying I wonder if this could be used for (flushing) the head some how..... Have to think about this....

i'm sorry i just can't read 14 pages of this posting again, but if this is about drying the cartridges, after flushing with solution i take a wet/dry vac to the exit port and you can see the liquid come out of the cartridge, that way you can dry it as much as you want very quickly, also it seems that once the upper sponge is flushed with the solution it now attracts ink, when it was filled as a "virgin" cartridge (unflushed) the ink never seemed to migrate to the upper sponge. just my observation
