Dreaded P07/5B00 message on Canon Pixma MP499

Yes sadly the "printhead not recognized" error message also means the printhead is defective.

It is an electronic failure of the printhead and it cannot be repaired. The only cure is a new printhead.

But beware. When a Canon printhead fails electronically it can but does not always damage the logic board. A damaged logic board will not function properly and might even damage a new printhead.

So replacing Canon printheads is a gamble, and sadly I cannot tell the odds for success.

In many Canon service manuals it is recommended that both the printhead and the logic board are replaced at the same time.

I totaly took the Purge Unit out of the Printer and dissassambled to clean it manualy, pieces by pieces.
For such a small printer that’s a mighty big purge unit, the complete Pro 9500 purge unit was tiny compared, and only needed 3 screws to remove.
