I think it is possible to reset the waste ink counter on the Epson printer. For some older Epson printers a free utility the SSC reset can be used. I don't know if it will work with your printer. For newer Epson printers the WIC reset program can be used. The download is free and you can use the program to get some info for free, but for a reset you need to buy a key. A service manual might also be useful, I found one here.

Canon and Epson printers are very different and I don't know much about Epson printers. I think that if you start a new thread in the "Epson Inkjet Printers" forum your chances are much better for an answer.

Hello The Hat, PeterBJ...
Happy new year!! Wish you all the best!!
Longtime not talked about printing here.
I try to find out how to communicate between my Mac OSx (10.6.8) and (10.10.5) and Service Tool programm (Canon Version tool V1.50 or V3400) to my old Pixma MP620.
I do have an "5B00" message on the Printer Screen (wich mean ink absorber full).
I did clean it and can't reset it.
Communication problem.
I can easily get into the service programm on my Printer (Idle) but as I open the programm Service Tool I don't see my printer on the USB window (none).
Does anybody from you Guys who had an experience with Mac?
I tried with Wine bottler programm but it seems it doesn't work.
Thanks in advance for your answers.
Best Regards
Zepat

The service tools only work with Windows. You cannot use MacOS or Linux. I have seen no reports of making the service tools work with Wine or other Windows emulator in MacOS or Linux.

Couldn't you borrow or get an old Windows laptop for free? Even one with Windows XP will do for the reset.

Hello Peter BJ,
I got an old PC and installed the Service tools programm, did the reset for the Ink absorber, it worked out.
But now as I wanted to print a noozle check paper I got a new error message 6C10 ....
Doesn't sound great isn't it?
Best regards

I searched for a service manual for the MP499 but found none. The MP499 might be similar or identical to the MP495. A service manual for the MP495 is found here. This manual is only supplementary so you will also need the base model manual found here.

But sadly none of these manuals mention the 6C10 error, but in other manuals it is a purge unit error:

The purge unit has got two valves that determine if black or colour or both nozzle sets should be cleaned.

I do have an MP620 service manual wich says the similar things you said.
To clean the purge unit I do need to take it away or do can I do it via the service tools app.?
By the way, to get into service mode you need to press twice and not 5 times.

There are a handful of very similar printer models. That's the reason for one manual covering several models. Some of the models need the "two press" procedure to enter service mode, others need the "five press" procedure to enter service mode.

There is no clean the purge unit function in the service tools. You will have to take the printer apart to check for paper scraps or other things blocking the movement of the purge unit parts. The purge unit has one or two cams operating two valves and two microswitches or an optical sensor determining the position of the cam. So you should also check the function of these sensors.
