I think the reasan HP is/was able to sell printers with CD/DVD print capabilities in the U.S. was because they paid a licensing/royalty fee to Epson, which Canon elected not to do.
Just as an FYI, anyone needing an alternate source, Precisioncolors(mikling) has syringes with 2" 20g blunt needles available.

I read a review at Freedomtoprint.com that says the new PGI-225/CLI-226 contain the same amount of ink as the PGI-220/CLI-221.
Pigment black - 19 ml and dye colors - 9ml.

You can also cover the refill hole and put the outlet port over your ink bottle then put your mouth over the vent hole and gently blow air through it until some ink drips back into the bottle. Just be sure to clean any ink around the vent first or you'll get stained lips. This will clear the...

I can picture the character Smeagol/Gollum from The Lord of the Rings holding a freshly flushed and conditioned Canon cartridge saying "My preciousssss".
Since I use a 20 guage needle, a pushpin works perfect for making the hole. I push it in while rotating back and forth. It takes me about 5 seconds. It would not work for a larger diameter needle.
