If this were so then why isn't the 'additive' in all of the colors? It is far more likely that Yellow required something different for the performance Canon wanted.That said, I wonder if we have discovered a "PM ink gelling" issue, similar to the yellow? Is Canon adding something to the CL42 carts to foil our refilling efforts?
In the USA, manufacturers cannot subvert the consumer use of non-OEM replacement parts when it comes to warranty. For instance, you may use any brand oil filter and oil in your car. As long as these meets spec then your engine is still covered under warranty. Manufacturers would pay a heavy price in court for adding a substance to purposefully cause non-OEM oil to malfunction. Same would hold for Canon purposefully causing gelling and destroying the print head and/or purge unit. Of course proving malicious intent is another thing.
