Ive never seen one, interesting though you find it more reliable

I will add some pictures of it, it is more reliable than the blue version for CLI 221 series, this resetter has a protruding part where you slide the cartridge wich activates an internal switch, since new sometimes is a real pain to reset the cartrigdes, due that the internal switch is not pressed. The old version lacks this internal switch and works at the first try.

This CLI 221 resetter has killed 2-3 chips since I purchased it.​

Interesting i and i would think many others have never seen those. Interesting the 2008 model also works better as you potentially have a damaged circuit board looking at the second image of second post. Also an interesting reset pin layout on that blue resetter for cli8 carts.

This old model has never failed doing its tasks, this works better because this lacks the internal switch activated from outside where the cartridges slide, sometimes I had to open the CLI 221 resetter and pull upwards the switch lever so it could be closer to the piece that presses it down, since new it is not that reliable in this aspect, the old one is just slide the cart and job done.​

Im surprised the Blue CLI8/PGI5 resetter works at all let alone actually being more reliable. The bottom of the circuit board has damage right in line with the main top PCB track and the pins that make contact with the cartridge when you reset are like ive never seen. Ive no idea why it has 5 pins in total let alone a staggered arrangement. If you look at other more well known resetters for CLI8 carts they have 4 pins in a straight row arrangement, like....

So no idea what the fifth pin on yours does. Maybe all really early clones were like that, i guess someone reading will know.

I guess all that matters is it works for you, but its a design ive never seen or can understand.

Hi i want ask what the resetter idea depend on is it change the OHM value in chips ?? and as you mentions in posts why there is 3,4 and 5 pin to reset ?

Yep ive no idea why a CLI8 resetter would have 5 pins???? Im pretty sure without going and digging it out my octoinkjet CLI8 resetter only has the 4 pins and visually looks identical to the one i linked to (IE http://www.printerknowledge.com/threads/rks-chip-resetter-aka-redsetter-review-and-battery-mod.2765/) which interestingly is also circa 2008.

I wonder if there are other redsetter CLI8 clones that have 5 pins and what that extra 5th pin does. I dont personally recall seeing any 5 pin CLI8 resetters before this one, then again there could had been loads and ive never paid enough attention.

These resetters were well known on the forum. You may search and find ancient threads on them.

I have what appears to be the same CLI-8 model as Harvey. It has worked perfectly for years with the original batteries.

Thanks @stratman must be before my time with Canon Printers, hows it work with regards to the double decker pin config (second lot in from the left) do they just make contact with the same part of the chip on the CLI8 cart?

I wonder why they went for a double decker 2 pins at one particular part of the cart/chip?
