So my routine now will be to wait till one cart hits to yellow "!" and at that point I reset all the carts and top them all off. Until I can get a second set of either new carts or empties from someone who does not refill ( There are a few folks out there ) I will have to reset and refill quickly as the PRO-100 will not sit there with the carriage in the ink change position for to many minutes. Using Squeeze Bottles / Needles does help to expedite the process.

Joe

Good info Joe,

I will follow the same procedure.

QUESTION FOR MIKE & MARTIN - Any chance that empty CLI-42 carts will become available from your sites any time soon.

All of them! LOL
I think that people that own PRO-100s and plan to use only OEM out of false fears or whatever, also do know of the high demand for the empties. So they will as I probably also would and try to sell them to refillers like us.

With the thousands of PRO-100 flooding the market you would think there would also be a ton of empties. But think about this for a minute. The proportion of folk using photo printers that ALSO participate on Printer forums is probably very small.

So I am wondering if any CLI-42s end up at recycles like Staples when they should be ending up in our hands!

Unlike the flood of CLI-8s empties still out there I really doubt the same will take place concerning CLI-42s but I am being pessimistic here. But there is also a shortage of Green and Red CLI-8 carts as well.

I do have hope that this will change.

Has there been an ink level monitoring issue with cartridges marked "Empty" but never DIM'ed?

Why the concern with finishing refilling before the print head returns to the rest position over the purge pads? could you not pull the plug after the print head moves to the center, or, just refill per usual and if the print head has returned to the rest position then close and open the cover again to move the print head to the center once again.

I have a standing request out with the various recycler contacts I have in the UK and further afield but frankly I doubt it will be anytime in the next year.

Here, we're hampered by the minimal take-up of the Pro-100 compared to the heavily discounted US market and the recyclers tend not to see any value in low volume cartridges until the've dumped thousands of the darned things. I'll keep plugging away but to be honest, while I know it's an expense I would say the US based folks have the least reason not to invest in a new set of OEMs instead of waiting for empties.

... and yes that's a hint of righteous indignation at having to fork out 5 times the price, in these parts. Take is as read that I have received extensive "How to really sulk" training from my little one ;)

I've never disabled the ink monitoring. None!

If you take too long to reset and refill each cart the print head will automatically move toward the right before you are finished. So that's why it would be nice to just pop in a full set of reset and refilled carts.

Joe, you've misread my post. I wasn't wondering if or stating you have DIM'ed a cartridges, which you have clearly stated previously you have not, but rather is there an issue of ink level monitoring, for anybody, with a cartridge that has been marked as "empty" only and never DIM'ed.

The second comment goes to workarounds for having the cover up for long enough that the print head returns to the resting position over the purge pads. A few minutes without cartridges should not be an issue if history is our guide.

I have been using the reopen the cover when I need to reinsert the refilled cartridges. Especially as one set of 8 cartridges seems to take longer to refill than the default "open cover" time lag.

Seems to work fine with no ill effects for me. However, I also though the DIMmed cartridges were resetting OK for the first couple of cycles.

YMMV

I have read on some websites where people in the EU claim to have been able to purchase the the heavily discounted US printer deals, ship to Europe, pay the outrageous local taxes even by Canadian standards, and still have a significantly cheaper than local purchase. Don`t know how credible the stories are, it is after all the internet.

If empties are going to show up it will probably be on eBay. That`s where I got most of my empty CLI-8 cartridges for average of about $1.00 each.
