I am now at ~ 8800 pages.

The MB5050 has worked fine since the empy BK cart has been replaced.
Next to be replaced are the color carts.
They now on the lowish side in the Ink monitor.
When the printer declares them empty I will fill and install the Chinese refillables.

My stat at 2 july 2018:
MB5050 Firmware version 2.010
@ 8800 pages

My Maxify MB5350 is now one year in use and has printed 5000 sheets (1500 double side makes 6500 pages, but nozzle checks count).

After leaving it alone for one month (switching itself on every day between 9.00 and 23.00) the nozzle check was flawless.

Unfortunatily, after a few pages the printer started a long sequence of shakes and noises, and after that the nozzle check missed BK, with big black stains and a pool of ink inside the printer.
I recognized this as what I call a "pressure breakdown" (occuring at a certain ink level) and cleaned the bottom plate hoping it would normalise as usual.
But the cyan started to leak also.
I had enough with it, pulled the plug during a nozzle check and observed the BK cart was almost empty (it must have leaked a lot).

I left it as it over the weekend (not a good idea: the BK had some nozzles missing taking some cleaning cycles and a night to resolve) and decided on Monday to drop the "new Chinese carts", refill OEM cartridges and transplant the autoreset chips (I still do not trust the printer with "empty" chips, most Canon's do not like this).

Refilling original cartridges (even the setups) is in fact very easy as shown in this video:

https://www.octopus-office.de/info/...n/canon-pgi-1500-pgi-2500-refill-instruction/

Weights: empty, refilled

2500XL BK: 62g, 132g (seems a full OEM is 140g, some free ink for priming)
2500XL color: 47g, 67g (idem 70)

Things are back to normal again.
Maybe the refillable carts have a limited life.
Will see if the original carts will keep the ink better.

Today my Maxify is partly on refill ink :)

Today the Cyan cart ran out. (error Bxxx - Red cross)
Maybe I should not use the Chinese Carts? (after reading your last post)
But since I have them anyway I have filled the cytan with 40ml
Then installed the cart. The printer did it's purge :)

What I like: You can mix Chinese ARC's and genuine Canon chips.
The printer makes no problems at all from this mix of different chips.
The M, BK and Y are still original.

Learned from your post:
- Will keep an eye on cross contamination.
- Will keep the empty original canon carts.
- Will not allow them to run empty. Fill when ARC shows them "virtually" empty

My ink comes from: http://tintenkammer.de/
I used the HP Inktec pigment ink:

http://tintenkammer.de/advanced_sea...d=0&keywords=932+933+940+950+951&inc_subcat=1

So far so good, but please note I only used one color so far (Cyan)
As far as my shopping experience goes: they were quick with delivery.
No problems in that regard.

Greetings!

I am past 9000 pages now.
Since I refill the OEM carts (equipped with ARC chips) I have no leaks anymore and the nozzle checks are pristine.
The ink seems to last longer, I seldom see the printer do cleaning cycles.

This printer behaves totally different as the Canon printers we know.
It can sense the ink flow and most probably decides on this for cleaning and can give an error when not restored (empty ?).

I even suspect it interferes with the pressure in the cart via the needle on top of the ink outlet.

From what I know now I would suggest everyone to change the chips of the OEM carts with ARC's from Aliexpress and use the refill procedure suggested here:

https://www.octopus-office.de/info/...n/canon-pgi-1500-pgi-2500-refill-instruction/

Very satisfied with their ink too.

All the best for 2019 and fingers crossed !

For the first time I’ve read this thread from start to end. I’m afraid that the Maxify disease has got me.
Is no good telling myself that I don’t need one for the moment, owning a laser Brother and a couple of die-hard Canon IP3000s. This evening I already emptied a cupboard shelf in order to make room for a future Maxify.
My excuse is that I need a minimally decent scanner right now and if it comes with printing features built-in, what can I do ?

At present, recollecting info in the matter : prices, availability of inks, chips and so on.
One thing I noticed is that Octopus doesn’t sell empty refillable PGI-2500XL carts anymore, If they do, I couldn’t find them on their website. Maybe too many users complaining about leaks and other problems ?.
Also, a fast search on Ali-express has revealed that the Chinese design used successfully by @palombian for some time has vanished too. I found only ‘empty box’ designs. Possibly I need to do a more thorough research.

@palombian and other owners of Maxifys: After your experiences, do you recommend using only OEM carts for refilling and forget third party units ?.
Any significant differences between the MB5050 and the MB5150 ?

:hugs
The original set of refillable carts I got from AliExpress are also not available anymore, don’t know why, yes my black cart leaked a little bit when first installed but then stop soon after, maybe I over filled it, but the Octopus refillables I had leaked like crazy, I sent them back.

It’s just as easy to refill the OEM carts that come with the printer, and you don’t need to have new chips, because the printer will still work when the chips show empty, ( It's sort of a nice crazy printer)

but I’d still recommend getting some ARC chips, I got a set of ARC’s from Octopus which turned out to be one time but after long drawn out Emails they eventually sent me the correct set and there’re still in the printer today working fine and no more leaks either..
P.S. Check out each model before purchasing they all have different features, including two paper cassettes..

Any significant differences between the MB5050 and the MB5150 ?
Depends on the word "significant".

The MB5150 is
  • slightly faster time to first print and output overall
  • Auto two-sided ADF scanning
  • faster ADF scanning speed
  • slightly faster copying speed
  • more connectivity application support (eg Mopria)
  • less support for older operating systems (eg Windows XP)
  • Included software may be more
  • slightly larger touch screen
Based on the written specifications found on the Canon EU web site, the significant differences of the MB5150 are auto duplex, much faster ADF scanning, less native support for older operating systems, and supports Mopria software connectivity.

@Artur5 , refilling the OEM's is not difficult and you benefit from the full functionality of the cartridge as designed by Canon. The refillables do not have a bag and can't maintain a constant pressure.
You can use the setup carts and fill them to the XL capacity (and over).

A Maxify does not stop printing when a cartridge shows empty (red cross), you only get a warning from time to time that "the cartridge MAY (not Theresa) be empty".
So the easiest way is (as @The Hat and @mikling do) fill all 4 up and ignore ink levels.
With 2500XL carts you print for months.
Even with Canon ink it is cheaper to run than other inkjets and the speed, features and quality are of a higher level than ecotank models.

I even doubt there is any penalty for running with "empty" cards.
At this moment my Y (ARC) has a red cross since 2 weeks but still has ink and I can't see any changes in behaviour (as more frequent cleaning cycles).

So maybe ARC chips are not necessary at all. There have been reports (on amazon.de) of unrecoverable errors by using 3th party cartridges (and chips), probably from unexperienced users (or Canon trolls).
No recent documented reports.
To be sure disable firmware updates and buy recent chips.

To be discussed further.

Thanks for the prompt feedback guys. Maxifys seem to be a hot subject in this forum.
Checking prices at Canon official store and Amazon, there’re practically no differences. 170-180 euros for the 5050 or the 5150.
Canon store doesn’t sells the MB5010 ( at least at present ). An advantage of buying there is that they offer a warranty with ‘in situ’ replacement for the Maxifys. So, you don’t have to worry shipping the printer in case of trouble. A Courier would come to fetch the machine at home and would send it back when repaired ( or a new one.).
On the other part, I’m considering the initial investment required. Every inkjet I owned had at least a full set of extra cartridges. I don’t like having to refill on the spot and, if a problem arises, you always have a spare handy. Therefore, avoiding third party refillables, I’d need a extra set of OEM carts (80-85€) plus two sets of ARC chips (10€/chip = 80 € ) ->180+80+80 = 340€. All of a sudden, my initial enthusiasm has subdued quite a bit.
Of course, I could pass on replacing OEM chips with ARCs and refill the initial OEM carts when needed, without keeping an extra set. I don’t know, somehow I’d rather invest the extra money to be on safe ground.
I’ll think it over. Provided the printhead of the IP3000 doesn’t dies suddenly, I’m not in a hurry. Also, my Brother HLL5000D serves me well for b&W text but, as you know or suppose, the world of third party consumables for laser printers is an intricate forest full of treacherous traps. Anyway, this matter belongs to another forum..
