just hit a milestone, 50,000 pages printed on my MP830. now not sure if i should expect it to die soon or just keep plugging along

for those who like numbers:
- at 37,000 pages hit the "waste pad full" wall, so about a year ago i changed the waste pads, see
http://www.printerknowledge.com/thr...-pad-replacement-at-37-000-pages-w-pics.7646/

- at 50,000 pages now, 13,000 pages on new waste pads and showing 35% full

changing my MP830 waste pads was not easy, will be easier next time around if my MP830 makes it that far. i put in new waste pads, seem to remember them running about $15, figured for what this printer has saved my in term of refills and longevity need to treat it right.

MP830 manual says useful life is 18,000 pages, so at 50,000 may be living on borrowed time.

anyone have their total pages printed numbers ?

:bow Congratulation @jimbo123 that must be an all time record. (Canon book of records) :thumbsup

I once did around 25000 on an old Epson C80 and stopped using it because of the very loud howls and squeaks coming out of it, now most of my Canon printers hardly ever reach 10,000 before suffering some sort of problem or I do something to them myself..

Would you not think about fitting an external waste ink tank to any of your other printers ?

must be some luck involved, its not that i do anything special other than use good quality refill ink and print every day. i also use the Lazy Method(refill single set of ink carts), not sure if the MP830 knows or cares about that.....

here's my EEPROM service mode print, shows TPAGE at 50,173 and D=35.7 for waste pad usage %

thought about an external waste tank, but had heard others here had some issues so decided to pass and change the pads. if you look at my pics my "full" waste pads were not in that bad shape, so if i do hit the wall again might just roll the dice and reset the counter next time. then again it will be easier next time around to change, so would mostly likely replace them.

Is that with one print head?
Then this is great record indeed! :thumbsup
The MP830 is a sturdy machine, I can only hope that my MG6250 produces the promised 18 K pages.

I'm going for the lazy method too!

nice on going with the "Lazy Method", seems to work for me
http://www.printerknowledge.com/threads/jimbo-method-recap-w-more-data-details-named-by-the-hat-and-stratman.8621/

this MP830 is on third print head:
- first one died at 22,000 pages
- second one died at 25,000 pages
- third print head installed 09/2013 at 47,000 pages, now at 50,173 pages

i do have a spare new MP830 when this one dies, but i used my last print head in 09/2013. called canon and they stop stocking parts after 5 years so MP830 print heads are no longer available from canon. looked around for a new one, found some cheaper ones from china, passed on those and finally found a new genuine canon print head for $79 shipped.

i've been spoiled by this printer, figure $79 is a small price to pay considering the significant refill savings i have seen.

I've got 55000 on an Epson P50, 42000 on an R2000, 30000 on a 1400, and most were photos :)
I guess Epsons are much more resilient with their permanent heads...

I only had one printer (an R2000) die on me so far, and that at under 10K pages...
