If you replace both the black and the contaminated color with new Canon cartridges, that will tell you whether the problem is in the print head or the cartridges.

This is a known problem of internal cracks with Canon print heads, I have had it happen, as others, the cartidges usually get comtaminated due to it.

Bottom line you most likely need a new print head.

You got me on that one Bob; its certainly news to me as I have never heard of any problems
with cracks in Canon print heads due to poor manufacture.

As far as I can see ThrillaMozilla answer is more lightly to solve sgmichael problems than a new print head would,
his black cartridge probably just leaked causing the contamination in the first place..

I had the problem where a new yellow cart was contaminated instantly 2 times in a row, cleaned the print head and parking sponges, was good for a few prints and then a contaminated yellow cart again. Replaced the print head and never thad the problem again.

True, but I have seen this pop up as a problem more than a few times. I just posted one link that I had bookmarked.

If the OP pulls the print head and cleans it properly, cleans the capping station, puts in two new OEM cartridges and still has the problem then I would say it's a bad printhead and most likely an internal crack.

I wonder if some of the posts you see are reposts. More than one web site publishes the same posts as FixYourOwnPrinter. I would like to see more evidence of this, Bob.

Also, the link you posted is concerned with old model Canons for which print heads are no longer in manufacture. Maybe Canon did have a problem at some point in the remote past, but there have been no rash of reportings in the past several years suggestive of a systemic manufacturing problem since I have been monitoring issues AFAIK.
