Don't be afraid of purging, if you do it as I did, and that is VERY easy, and not messy at all. You will see that any dry ink will exit as well.
And you don't need the red caps if you only have one set to refill, I have a spare set, my red caps are on those.

GOOD LUCK !
Thanks for the advise I may try it out later....

If Hobbicolors mentioned that the red caps were not included, and you know you don't have them yourself, you can not be disappointed in Hobbicolors as well.;)
Hobbicolors definitely did not mention anything about the orange/red caps not being included, you can see for yourself on the ebay page . They only mention it on a piece of paper included with the kit, and state that since they are used they no longer have caps, and they assume you must have some left over- I don't as the cartridges I used used tape . I also ordered two sets of carts specifically so I could have one refilled ready when one ran out so I do need the caps even if I use the german method.

Just a quick note on alternatives to the caps...

I've found that electricians tape is particularly useful as an alternative to caps as it'll stretch nicely over the exit ports on the cartridges and provide a good air and liquid tight seal.

As for sealing any holes made for flushing, etc... I've found that aluminium tape is excellent for this and removes the need for a hot glue gun...

Never thought about just using tape for that. If you use the German methode to refill, you ONLY need red caps for storage of a spare set, if the tape works for the flushing hole, it might as well replace the red cap during storage ?
The only thing with storing a spare set I found out, you need to keep the carts standing up-right, otherwise you get an ink flow towards the sponge.

I looked on the ebay link that you gave me and it states clearly

" Please note that these OEM cartridges are used and they do not come with orange caps. "

It is written in red...

It could be that they updated the description. You can clearly see that the listing indicated that it was revised on 11-Aug-2010 just under the 'Description' tab.

Indeed :), Dave did update it, he accepted it was an oversight that it was not mentioned, and has now updated all pages accordingly & has also generously sent me a set of caps free of charge so, all is now well!

Arghhhhh :(...I spent around an hour filling all the carts with the German method, I took out the old printhead on the MP 760 which seemed to have dried ink on the bottom near the chips (presumably not good), the old carts seemed to have condensation inside also. I installed the new printhead and the newly refilled carts, went to print head alignment according to the instructions here it then went through all the normal printer actions + noises but nothing is coming out on the page! I tried a second time with manual alignment but still nothing is coming out, can anyone help please?

Good for you, now Dave has done that, you might consider to add at the post tittle : " but Hobbicolors fixed it " as it looks negative to eveyone who sees the post title.

OK, done- any help with the problem above? When I tried to align the printhead it said printhead alignment failed and nothing had printed onto the page- it makes the actions and noises as if it is printing but no ink comes out onto the page.

EDIT: question moved to general forum here .
