Hello to this wealth of knowledge forum.

Want to get into a better post processing workflow and will be acquiring a photo printer soon. Idea is to get my photos where I like them before sending out for printing.

Current have an old Epson Artisan 730, but that is religated to schoolwork printing for my 2 boys stuck at home for schooling.

Looking into entry level Canon ip8720 up to maybe even a Pro-10. Actually have both on order awaiting shipping as they are backordered.

EDIT: Ended of getting a Pro-100 for a deal. Thanks!

Welcome to the forum, bluestang. That is quite the difference in the two printers you have ordered. Happy printing!

Thanks!

Yeah I know. And to complicate things a little more...I'm in the process of a deal to get a new sealed Pro-100 with an extra set of cartridges for $125.

Think I'll go that route and cancel the Pro-10 backorder.

Got it this afternoon. Box its beat up and that but from what I've seen looking that is normal with these bohemoths. Looks like Adorama shipped it just like that since the UPS label is still on it so at least I know where he got it from. Not sure how long its been sitting around.

He said it was part of a Camera bundle he bought from Adorama. Looks like extra set of cartridges aren't OEM since they are in sealed clear bags and not shrink wrapped and the orange cap is different. Oh well, still a deal.

Opened the box and everything is in there still sealed from the factory. Included a box of 50 sheets of Canon Semi-Gloss 13x19 SG-201 too.

Those KINDA look like OEM carts to me.
Anyone else care to chime in?

If they are not OEM carts, DO NOT USE THE YELLOW CART!!! REALLY!!!

If it is non-OEM, then you run the risk of "yellow jello", clogging that print head channel.

Use the carts marked "start-up" first!!!

Yeah thanks. I've been reading up on the yellow issues with 3rd party inks mixed with the OEM yellow.

The orange caps twist off instead of the clip lock on the OEM. Is there more than 1 style of OEM carts? Curious if these are OEM or not?

These separate carts are not OEM, (Pic) but they are safe to use after you first use the OEM carts that came with the new printer (Marked Setup)..

You can only get Yello Gello from mixing inks inside a cart and not from using separate 3rd carts, but once used do not attempt to refill these carts later, Yello Gello occurs inside a cart and not in the print head..
P.S. I reckon you should have went for the Pro 10...

The extra set of cartridges are not OEM. They are compatible/aftermarket/third party from China. They look like yours. Notice missing Canon logo.

The twist lock caps are not found on Canon OEM cartridges. Canon spot welds the caps onto the cartridges. You break the welding spots when removing the cap.

Here is a Canon OEM CLI-42 BK cartridge. Notice the Canon logo. Click to enlarge.

The Hat posted while I was preparing this.

Thanks everyone for all the info. I'm probably not going to use the 3rd party carts I got with this unless I need to in any emergency. Most likely will keep them in case I need the chips off them.

@The Hat The Pro-10 was way more than I wanted to spend. Plus I couldn't pass this Pro-100 up for the price I paid.

Are the "Setup" cartridges able to have their chips reset and the refilled? I would of course flush and dry the Yellow.
