I use Image Specialists inks from Octoinkjet for Canon cartridges PGI-5/CLI-8, PGI-520/CLI-521 and PGI-525/CLI-526. These inks produce good colour match without need for profiling/corrections in the driver settings.

I don't know the inks for PGI-550/CLI-551. These are a house brand and not made by Image Specialists. Type numbers starting with OC suggests to me that the manufacturer could be OCP. I would like to see some reports on colour match for these inks. So any reports, please?

Here is a druckerchannel test of compatible cartridges and inks for PGI-550/CLI-551 cartridges. And a translation to English here . See page 5 for differences in colours in photo printing using different inks.

Could you print this test image and upload a scan? Just right-click the image and save it when the link opens.

I have noticed that when using NON OEM ink and paper with Canon printers that the choice of photo paper in the printer setting affects the colour of the prints, so you could try the different settings. With my printers and IS inks and popular photo papers from Sihl and Netbit sold by Lidl and Aldi the "Photo Paper Plus Glossy II" setting gives the best results and no colour correction is necessary.

Hi, I have just joined as member and saw your post.
I also had a green cast covering all my prints. Corresponded with www.digitaldog.com who informed me there was a bug in AdobeCC giving these similar issues. The latest update has cured this. I also had conversation with Marrutt inks before I was made aware of Adobe issue, they inform me that cause is lack of magentta caused by blocked jet.
Hope this may assist if not yet resolved.

Hello Vorkolor,

First, sorry for my english, I'm french.

I wanted to testify about green cast with OctoInkjet inks.
I have a Canon MG5150 and I refill the Canon cartridges (CLI-526 / PGI-525).

I ordered and received in April the inks from OctoInkjet.
It's particularly noticeable on photography prints.

The cartridges were flushed with water, so it's not because of a mix with the previous inks (Sudhaus inks).

Finally, I ordered inks from Octopus in Germany, and I flushed once more the cartridges.
Now, the photography prints are OK, no cast, with default settings in the printer driver.

So I cannot recommand inks from OctoInkjet for Canon printer.

@Palatino what photo paper and what media setting do you use with your MG5150? Printer, ink and paper work together as a system. If you change one or more of them colour balance will most likely change, but it might be easily corrected in the driver settings.

Here is a test image printed with an MG5150 and IS inks for PGI-x25/CLI-x26 on Netbit paper from Aldi. The first uses the media setting Photo Paper Plus Glossy II, Quality = Automatic and Settings = Default. The second uses the media setting Photo Paper Plus Glossy II, Quality = Automatic and Settings = Magenta +15. The first print has a green cast, the second print is neutral because of the correction. The choice of media setting also affects colour, I prefer the setting Photo Paper Plus Glossy II. Click to enlarge:

Canon OEM inks on Canon OEM paper are not perfect either. Most if not all Canon dye inks produce a magenta cast on Canon OEM paper. This can also be corrected. This is printed using an iP4300 with Canon OEM inks on Canon GP-501 paper. Quality = Automatic and Settings = Default. Notice the magenta cast, it is easily seen in the B/W image in the centre and in the greyscale. Click to enlarge:

The dye inks in the IS ink set for the PGI-525/CLI-526 cartridges are the same as in the IS ink set for PGI-5/CLI-8 ink set, so I think a comparison with Canon OEM PGI-5/CLI-8 inks is justified. If you are using NON Canon OEM paper the choice of both paper and the media setting in the printer driver affects the colour. You might be lucky and find a combination that produces good colours, else a simple colour correction in the printer driver can likely improve the colours.

Epson, Canon, HP... A "few"
Very late to this thread as I'm basically off forums at present.

Regarding the Original post...
@Vorkolor could you contact me via either PM or via the standard OctoInkjet comms channels and I'll do what I can to help get this resolved. We've not had any other comments about this issue but the CLI-521C does use a different ink to that in CLI-8C and CLI-526C so there may be something we weren't aware of, especially as there are few customers using those inks now due to the age of the printers (and lack of replacement printheads now).

Similarly @Palatino, I've checked back and can't locate any communication from orders relating to the timeframe, country or issue you've specified. It seems either I've missed something or you chose not to contact us about the issue.

If I've erred then I'd certainly appreciate an opportunity to correct that, but if you haven't contacted us to date, please do so as soon as possible so I can resolve this, or organise a return and refund on your order.

Hello websnail,

You're right, I didn't contact you about the issue in April (Order reference: ISC19009 , Internal ref:107576).
Sorry, but I didn't keep the ink bottles, except the black pigmented one (1128PGI), actually in use in my Canon MG5150 printer.
So, it will be impossible to organise a return but I do appreciate that.

Hello again. Sorry I haven't replied sooner.

So, it turns out my previous statement that solid colors looked fine wasn't entirely correct. When printing as plain paper, there was a faint banding in the magenta, which got much more noticeable over the summer. But on other media types, and on the nozzle check, there was no noticeable banding. I've done multiple cleaning and deep cleaning cycles to no visible effect.

I think I should also doubt my previous statement that the nozzle checks are OK -- turns out hairlines are really hard to see in the magenta. Could be an alignment issue also, since I tried a head alignment and the next nozzle check had slightly muddier color patterns.

As for the colour cast , it could be the printer acting up, as well. I really can't say. It's there for plain paper, high-resolution paper and photo paper media types.
Here's a scan of two test prints of a colour pattern. Both are on plain paper, but for the one on the right the printer was set to "matte photo paper". You should be able to see coloured stripes in all the color blocks containing magenta in the "plain paper" print, but I can't see them in the "matte photo paper" print.

you should look into icm-color profiling, it's just the purpose of an icm-profile to correct those color casts and shifts, those are more or less visible, and vary pretty much between different ink and paper combinations.
You may be able to correct such color shift via the color adjustments in the driver to get a visually appealing result, but if you don't you may look into getting or creating yourself such profiles -e.g. with the Color Munki device and software, discussed in detail in other threads here.

The Colormunki is rather expensive, so I would prefer to just adjust the print driver. (Which I can do in Windows, but not in Linux :( ) Besides, no amount of profiling will get rid of the banding on plain paper.
