Origional problem was blue did not print, carried out several printhead cleans, still did not print, soaked print heads in hot water appeared to clear but still would not print, swaped blue cartridge put in a red carridge in its place and it red showed on bottom of printhead, seemed to be coming through.
Appeared to have cleared, inserted blue but would not print. Changed cartridge for new blue but still would not print.
After reading posts on this forum suggesting print head alignment i tried this but printer would not carry out auto printhead alignment and suggested manual alignment which i did but now all colours were even worse tried soaking over 2 days which apeared to clear all ink out of printheads, but now it will not print at all.
I also saw on this forum one expert who repaired printers who suggested that if the belts had slipped and the purge facility was misaligned it may be the reason for insufficient ink getting to the printheads (He also supplied instuction manuals for carrying out repairs but I now cannot find the post previously on the site).
Now I'm at a loss to know what to do? if I buy a new printhead which are expensive and it is the belt misalignment it would not cure the problem.

Can anyone help please? also dose anyone no who was the expert who repaired printers?

Thank you in anticipation.

Are you seeing ink at the bottom of the print head? That will cause the printer not print. The ink on the bottom of the print head is blocking your nozzles. the ink bubbles shot out from the nozzles got absorbed by the ink on the bottom of the print head. Your ink cartridges may be leaking. There is not enough suction from the ink cartridges to hold the ink and keep it from leaking out of the nozzles that's why you see ink on the bottom of the print head. Your problem is in the ink cartridges. Did you refill the cartridges?

melkin1,....I'm sorry but I'm not understanding the information in your post. It is not sufficient information to understand what you are doing and what results you are getting. Try again to explain the original problem and describe in detail each step, what you saw, what got printed.

From reading you post, it appears now that you can not get the printhead to print at all. You could have damaged the printhead or contaminated the contacts on the back of the head.

Here is a simple test for you purge unit. Since you have already cleaned the printhead many times and then put it back in your printer, you must have run some cleaning cycles. This would have primed the ink into the printhead. Pull out the ink carts and seal them. Pull out the printhead and wipe the bottom clean of any ink using a tissue. Make note of what colors of ink you see. Fold up a paper towel into 1/4 size and wet it but do not saturate it. Place the towel on a dish and set the printhead on the towel for a few seconds and then lift it up. You should see each ink color in separate rows. Move the printhead to a different spot and let it set for 30 seconds and check it again. Again you should see all of the ink colors.

If you still have one of your old nozzle checks or any other images, scan them and upload them to your next post so we can get a better idea of what you are trying to describe.

Trigger 37, I'm sorry but I don't have any printouts of previous nozzle checks, and no the printer does not print at all, but I did as you suggested I put the printheads on folded damp paper and it left the ink on the paper towel in seperate rows as you said.

I then put the printhead back in the printer installed the cartridges and ran another clean, I then repeated the test with the damp paper towel with same results ie ink in seperate rows.

Does this confirm that the purge unit appears to be working and that I just need new printheads?

melkin1,... If you cleaned or rinsed the printhead and then dried it good, then put it back in the printer and did a cleaning cycle, then pulled it back out and set it on the paper towel, yes it confirms that your purge unit is sucking ink into the print. If it is still not printing anything, I think there is a good probablity the print head is dead. Some connection in the chain from the logic cart, cables, carriage Asm, Carriage contacts, printhead contacts, printhead internal decode logic, has failed. The least expensive thing to do is purchase a new printhead. If this fixes your problem, great. If not, then the problem is some other failure in the printer. Buy a new printer.

Thanks Trgger37, I have ordered a new printhead, so here's hoping it fixes the problem.

I was considering buying the Canon IP4500 printer and although the reports of print quality are good and it prints FULL face CDs (which the IP4000 does'nt) post on this and orther forums advise problems with compatible carts, causing blockages in printheads and problem of changing chips from cart to cart. Any advice?
