Anyone have any experience on the Colorwave? Or something similar? Will it print on bond coated paper? Is it water-based inks?

Hi @Jon Kovach and welcome, The Oce Colorwave is designed to use copy / digital matte and semi gloss papers only, don’t use bond in it because it will jam in the paper feed.!

The ink is also water proof.

Ack. Is that the same (do you know?) for the HP PageWide technology?
I am curious, why can this machine use matte paper, but not coated bond?

The bond paper is old technology now and has too much moisture in it, for any modern printer and therefore it is subject to constant jamming inside the paper feed and delivery systems on these machines.
On the HP the print quality would be terrible caused by ink bleaching (Feathering), stick with digital papers for better reliability and output quality..

that thing is a countinous printing beast..
2l oder 10l Ink reservoirs for each CYM and double K
five printhead with each 70.400 nozzles
yeah and 18 meters print speed form the roll per MINUTE on normal print settings

with these printspeeds it is really mandatory to stick to the media guide and use only paper that will ensure a solid and steady paperfeed

Yeah.. it was about 115.000 € plus Tax in Germany so 136.850 € for 1 unit including shipping, handling, installation
this price only covers very very basic Service Licence Agreements, best thing is to make a deal of either leasing or sth. simliar
for 115.000€ i could install like a dozen of Epson Pro Roll Paper SureColor T-Series with an intelligent print-server that dectects which print is idle and which is printing, basically what i am saying for less the money i could have a not so critical system such as ONE colorwave unit.

íts nice with the wideformat wide printhead, its licensed technology from mems, Epson is ALSO paying for licenense with theire Precisioncolor Printhead equiped machines, most of the Printhead mechanism is self develop however.

Afaik mems technology is only capable to print waterbased inks? but not solvent, eco solvent neither pigment based ...

Ohhhh..... hm. Okay. Well, not as expensive as I was thinking it would be, but I do like your idea of having multiple printers set up to do the same thing. I must say that THAT much speed is not as critical to me, but it would be nice. And fortunately, for me, I am working with aqueous inks. For my application, it is perfect for me.

Thanks for all your help. I really appreciate it!

the HP DesignJet Z6100 utilizes the waterbased PIGMENTED HP VIVERA Inks
these OCÉ monsters only use DYE Ink... so to be clear both inks are aqueous inks but not both are waterresisant and dye ink has poor UV stability in comparison to pigemented inks.

If you need a fast plotter like machine
check out
Epson SureColor SC-T7200

if you need a photo printer 42" wide
Epson Stylus Photo 9890 or 9900
