Hi Peter,
I would not pull the plug of the Mg6220 if there had been a good way to get out of service mode. The printer's LCD was gray, of course. Pressing the ON button did not help. Pressed and held down ON button did not help either. Since the service tool interface (on my laptop) did not have any grayed-out choices, hence it was likely that the printer had actually entered service mode.
Hmm, was I hasty in ending the service tool and service mode? I waited 2-3 min or so... And is it normal for the Windows Task Manager shows an older service tool, after an command like Test Print is initiated, as "Not responding"?
I was exploring the service mode and service tools to check the exact number of page printed (since low ink warning came up 3 week after purchase and I did not print that much!) and I was doing it out of curiosity too :) As a camera repairman, I have done some tweaks with my camera, also overclocking my laptop so I thought perhaps service mode/tool could offer more usual.
Oh well...

I have done some tests using various service tools and both a stationary computer and a much slower laptop plus a stop watch and an iP3600. In all cases the service tools reacted within seconds of clicking test print, indicated by the green power light on the printer blinking and some start up noises from the printer. The test print finished in about 1 minute and 45 seconds. My older observation with the slow to respond service tools was from when I used a very slow Windows Vista computer. In my opinion Windows Vista = Windows Misery Edition II.

I admit that waiting 2-3 minutes is long enough before pulling the power. I would have done the same.

I have never experienced any of the service tools being unresponsive on any computer, 32 bit Windows XP, Vista and 7 or 64 bit 8 and 8.1. I think the not responding service tool could be the cause of the problems. Maybe the downloaded file was corrupted or infected? Of course you didn't go one step too far in overclocking the laptop, making it unstable?

The service mode problems could of course also be caused by some clever trick by Canon for the newer printers. Who knows, Canon won't tell. See this thread: http://www.printerknowledge.com/threads/ip7250-service-mode.8134/

Hmm, I wonder if using the wrong service tools caused the not-responding. It's likely that Mg6220 requires version 1.081, which is so far unavailable on the net. We won't know until the service manual for it is made available...

It is possible that v1081 is needed, I don't know. It seems nowhere to be found. If you find this service tool or the service manual for the MG6620 please post a link in the service tool thread or the service manual thread.

Hi, good to join. I have the same exact problem with Thien, looking solutions on the net and found this forum. Hopes there will be solution soon because my printer reached ink absorber full.

Hi ediep,
So your saying that you can not enter Service Mode either using this same procedure below ?

---------------------
1. With the machine power turned off, while pressing the Stop button/sensor, press and hold the ON button. (DO NOT release the buttons.)

2. When the Power LED lights in green, while holding the ON button, release the Stop button. (DO NOT release the ON button.)

3. While holding the ON button, press the Stop button 5 times, and release the ON button. (Each time the Stop button is pressed, the Alarm and Power LEDs light alternately, Alarm in orange and Power in green.)

4. When the Power LED lights in green, the machine is ready for the service mode operation (nothing is displayed on the LCD).

You’ll then have to use the Service tool. Exe V 32.00 or V 34.00 to reset the Ink absorber counter to zero once you have gained access to the printers Service Mode !

When I use that method, wether pressing the stop button 5 times or 6 times on step number 3 my printer just got hung and the only thing I can do is unplugging power cord.
It was able at the first time but after using service tool v3400 doing resetting process without success then the problem occurs.

I hate to say this but it sounds like you have done exactly the same as Thien did and mess up the reset in some way and have now locked yourself out of Service mode permanently, this Service tool app can be a very useful and handy app to use but it can also be very destructive so caution is always advised when using it.

The only solution to your problem now is to either send your printer to Canon Service and have them replace the pads and reset the ink counter or buy a new printer whichever is the cheapest; I will also have to dump my printer when the waste counter registers full on that..
