Hello again,

Here is another burned QY6-0075:
burned_qy6-0075.jpg

Again, there are some common symptoms:
  • "Burned" hole in the brown part (bottom outline of CLI printhead)
  • missing film(?), layer or whatever it is on CLI-BK and
    adjacent CLI-C
  • nozzle rows condition in general
This printhead was still able to print, but with marginal Cyan.
No errors, but some of them can be suppressed by pressing "stop/cancel" (I was told), but I haven't found this method working on newer machines.

Ł.

The thin, clear layer contains the nozzles. The left 2 nozzle sets are mechanically destroyed and are now missing. It's hard to imagine how those nozzles could print - could you post a nozzle check?

How can it "contain" the nozzles if it is a layer..
..in my collection I found an image of really destroyed nozzle rows under a crackled (but not destroyed) layer.

Question is how this layer lets the ink through..?

Look at the images in this post. It appears that the top layer (which appears to be about 250 microns thick) is a very large ceramic semiconductor. It contains all of the circuitry for the nozzles, as well as the nozzles themselves. Look at the 2nd image on this post - this looks like there are 2 thin ceramic layers.

Okay .. could be that this layer encloses the "naked" nozzle sets up to the top, letting their "outlets" open?

I have seen more or less crackled layers very often, but (rarely) also partially destroyed/missing layers..don't remember if the these were still able to print..this might depend on the state of the underlying nozzles..

The circuitry on this photo-micrograph was very near the surface of the print head, based on the distance from the point of first focus to the circuitry.

This series shows what the microscope saw as it was focused deeper and deeper into the ceramic layer. The nozzles appear to be integral to this layer, not just passing through.
