Anecdotal story from my past experience to add to the knowledge base.
About a year ago I got hold of some unknown coated paper for proofing, and tried to profile it with the colormunki.
I had trouble getting the correct media setting, so tried a couple of options.
Some options would read and profile with the CM, and some options would not read and gave me the red warning.
My GUESS at that time was that colormunki expects the first scan to read the patches within certain parameters, else it indicates a misread.
In my case the options that misread were definitely and visibly the WRONG media settings.
I did not test this hypothesis against known standards, so is offered on a FWIW basis.
