Thanks, now I can see where the cutting lines are.

I have made up a target chart reader out of some 3/16 inch ply and 1/4 inch balsa sheet, I happened to have. I made the mask out of 280g/sqm A3 PPD glossy micropourous paper.

I know nothing about hardware and software for profiling, but I admire the ingenious DIY accessories shown in this thread :thumbsup

Trying my first strip read and receiving errors. If I start at the white above top patch in column A, I get " strip reading failed due to misread". If I start at bottom of column A, I get "WARNING seem to have read strip pass T rather than A".

I assume I should start on white above top colour patch in column A (ie next to the "A")and finish on white below the bottom patch. I also sometimes get "Too many patches", "reading inconsistent". The only thing it doesn't give me is "better luck next time"!:)

I am now having success, I think the problem was the sensor "seeing" the black writing at the bottom of the sheet. I have now added a piece of 3/16 square balsa at the bottom of the slideway to stop the CM slightly earlier. Still a little inconsistent so have added a piece of 3/16 balsa to the top and use a distinct pause after pressing button before moving.

Having completed reading the patches and typed "d" and typed "makeprofile". I have used the same name for all except a nil on the copyright. But where is the profile?

Images of the screen from "All rows read" to the end of "makeprofile" are in the thumbnails.

A word of encouragement:
For those people who are interested in making printer profiles and are not interested in computers and take one look at these images and say to themselves "No, I am not taking that road". Take heart, you are just looking at the inner thoughts of your computer and the program author. You only have to deal with one or two lines at a time. In fact you don't even have to look at them if you reduce the size of the window down to three or four lines.

It's better if you glide the Munky slower over the patches, rather than faster. If you go slower you won't get the misread/too many patches error.

Argyll gave you the error: "Expect argument to copyright flag -C"
Either delete the -C from the .bat or enter something like "ArgyllCMS" when it asks.

I see your error: you should type in for the ti3 file: A4profile

Don't change the names of the ti1 ti2 and ti3 files !!!

makeprofile

Please enter the internal ICC file name (use brackets like "x x x"for names with spaces):

example: My_profile_with_ArgyllCMS or "My profile with ArgyllCMS"

Please enter the (optional) copyright description (use brackets like "x x x" for names with spaces):

example: copyright_ArgyllCMS or "copyright ArgyllCMS"

Enter the name of the .ti3 file created by the chartread command:

Here you should enter: A4profile (without the .ti3 extension !!!)

Please enter the desired external name of your printer profile:

example: SihlX_Canon_Pro-100_Image_Specialists or "SihX Canon Pro 100 Image Specialists"

Then the system will take several minutes to calculate the profile (on my Intel Core i7-2600). On slower systems it can take up to 10 minutes or longer. Be patient.

Thank you for all your responses. I must admit, I was playing the devil's advocate and hoped for detailed guidance, for the benefit of future readers. My initial reaction is it would be good if there was a default entry if we were too lazy to type in the answers. Copyright says "optional", so you are saying it isn't, you must make an entry, even a '_'.

Presumably, I have to read all the patches again, as I have switched off the computer in the interim. :)

No you don't have to reread if have closed the reading with "d". It wil be saved in the same working directory. But you will need to reread again when making another profile.
