I was just curious. I didn't understand why I was using up colored ink when I'm just printing grayscale.

I'm currently using a MB5120 but this has happened with all the Canon printers I have used.

Just curious as to why the color ink seems to get depleted when I'm only printing grayscale? Is there some kind of 'mini cleaning cycle' going on whenever I print something? I would think only the black ink would be used.

Is it safe to assume that my problems will be fixed with buying a new print head? I'm still getting streaks when printing. I don't get any print errors. These print heads are expensive. Is it safe to buy one (OEM not made in China) from someone on ebay to save a few bucks?
