My first "wet prints" came out of the hot press almost like 3D ...
... but 2D is what I want :(
So it seems I have to work on the drying process, that's where the paper got this waveform. This is classic baryt photopaper, without plastic back side to keep it flat.
BTW .. Weegee, my avartar...
Hi Emulator, to answer your question, no I haven't emerged from my "Rennaissance" of wet darkroom. My break with analogue techniques was around 1980, and the digital print began.
But fortunately I didn't sold the home lab and the room is still there after 30 years.
Now the slow go returns, much...
Just to get this right - so the upper part is not the "kept in dark" part?
This would be a surprise, I never tried overprinting, but it seems that I have to...
How important is the sort / brand of GO, which GO did you use?
Fully agreed.
I have done examinations of nozzle rows quite a lot, back when I was buying used canon heads every month, which were out of production. I used a ccd scanner or a strong opticians loupe...
As far as I know (!)
If you have named your profile in the last window of i1studio, then it will be stored/saved/installed in the system folder (path for windows see above). It's the same as with the "photo" software for CM.
Applying a certain icc while using a printer (output device) is done by...
Standard folder for icc files in windows is
C:\Windows\System32\spool\drivers\color\
I called my (unusable)scanner profile "mp810-noCM_ColCh24chart",
and it was saved as "Scanner_mp810-noCM_ColCh24chart" in the folder described above.
So I have to correct myself, it was indeed saved, despite...
When I tried to profile my scanner, I indeed could see "the screen on the right" - but it said something like, "check this and that ... wrong chart colors ..?.. wrong cropping or resolution ..?.. " and therefor no icc was saved.
I have to say that I use a china made copy of "color checker"...
It's simply because for the full print resolution the printer has to print with all colors (=all nozzles)
Having both 3-color (C-M-Y) and 4-color pixma's (C-M-Y-K) I have to say, that color cast on B&W does happen with both.
You have to adjust the color correction by yourself (like The Hat...
So you are content with the first results, are you? Here on my monitor the sample looks a bit on the reddish warm side, but this may have to do with the image file (camera and WB).
My results are really unuseable, so it must be some really wrong setting anywhere in the depth of (my?) color...
First let me thank you for this profound examination, ISF
If the ink is a mix of canon BCI and epson L300 I assume you are printing with epson piezo printers, right? For these printers we have the well known and tested fujifilm DL as a possible solution to minimize fading with refill ink... but...
Thanks for the link, maybe some hint can help me..
Because with the standard CM "Photo" software the profile turns out right, I've just did it with the same printer and paper. Then I tried "i1studio" for a second time, same printersettings and paper. The profiling process seems to work...
I'm curious to hear your findings, Emulator.
Because my first profile is unusable, probably there is something wrong in the workflow.
But I can't find any "settings", I miss the choice of icc version 2 or 4, which is an option in the standard "colormunki Photo" software.

Good thing about it:
"... Existing ColorMunki Photo & Design customers can obtain a complimentary upgrade to i1Studio software at xrite.com/geti1Studio."

Exactly! These should be called "original canon printhead, used and brand new refurbished"
(maybe soon at aliexpress with "original refurbished hologram sticker"?? )
"for less than 150€": I've seen old ones but sealed and unopened ("NOS"), at amazon or ebay, which were more or less...
@Flying Scotsman You will miss K and GY, because GI-490 bottled ink is only C, M and Y.
Probably the second precaution (beside the bad UV resistance) to prevent this ink to cannibalize canon's cartridge sales..
Okay - but here it's canon OEM ink (GI-490), which seems to not stand up to the quality neither of chromalife. nor of some 3rd party dye..
The other thread started with GI-490 ink, hoping this would be a decent refill ink for canon bubble jet printers, in particular regarding fading...
Both qy6-0067 and 0075 are out of production and not available anymore.
If you ever find one of these, unopened and with original canon hologram sticker, for less than 150€, let me know.
I haven't tried a 0067 on a newer printer, only a 0075 in my older ip4500 and mp810.
So the newer 0075 is...
