Colormunki II? New x-rite "i1studio"

I am not sure I am doing something wrong, but I get horrible profiles using i1studio. The Colormunki software produces nice profiles, but the i1studio gives me strange results.

After some practice my results are the same as with the old software.
I had some weird ones too (easily to verify with a soft proofing in LR or alike).

When scanning a row you have to wait a second after clicking before starting the move.
Yesterday, when listening to music on my new headphone, I heard a beep signaling the software is ready. Same at the end of the row.

Over all I find the new software better written, you can go back and forth, it does remember where you are and what you were doing.
Since my Colormunki has problems with the wheel position sensor (hardware design fault admitted by XRite but not covered by warranty ), with the new software I found a trick to manage this. Saves me at least €200 for another second hand Colormunki.

Yep !

Colormunki is IMO an essential tool, but I am afraid they do not target hobbyists in the first place.

Yes, but most if not all other X-Rite products (and their company culture) are oriented to the professional market.
As hobbyists we profit of coarse from their experience.

Very kind of them to provide the i1Studio software upgrade for the Colormunki Photo for free (never understood who invented the name "Colormunki", probably marketing liked "i1Studio" more).
Actually both products are still in their product listing, together with the ColorMunki Design, all with the same hardware inside.

But i have to make some break, my renewed wet darkroom is waiting! Much more hardware related... can't wait to develop and enlarge real film negatives, after 30 years idle time of my "analogue" devices

Martin, have you emerged from your new wet darkroom yet?

Once I had set up my first inkjet printer, I gradually stopped using my enlarger and wet chemical processing. I eventually gave the whole lot away as there didn't seem to be a market to sell it, and of course it was B&W only.

Hi Emulator, to answer your question, no I haven't emerged from my "Rennaissance" of wet darkroom. My break with analogue techniques was around 1980, and the digital print began.

But fortunately I didn't sold the home lab and the room is still there after 30 years.
Now the slow go returns, much more effort to get much less output.

It's a bit like using vinyl "platter" for listening music instead of mp3 downloads.

FinaIly I afforded my dream camera of the 70ties:

...which 6x7 negatives leads to a third enlarger, surely an old biest of 20kg, with mechanical autofocus:

It's the one on the left.. the model on the right is now retired..

But I have to admit, it's the technology and hardware which is fascinating me ... for a hobby photographer like me this is surely a kind of "über-equipment".
(but that is my epson 3880 too)

WOW!! That is some processing/wet lab. It really makes you realise the effect of the inkjet revolution. You could spend hours in there.

I think The Hat must be envious. 3D printing does not compete with that!

My first "wet prints" came out of the hot press almost like 3D ...

... but 2D is what I want
So it seems I have to work on the drying process, that's where the paper got this waveform. This is classic baryt photopaper, without plastic back side to keep it flat.

BTW .. Weegee, my avartar, had a wet "darkroom in a box" to process his famous (or infamous?) crime scene photographs on location, in the back of his car:

My personal conclusion regarding "i1 studio" for the old colormunki:
It seems that some people have the same issue with the new software on the old colormunki.
And there is another reason for me to stay with the standard software: "color picker" is very usefull to measure your prints afterwards, e.g. the black density, ..
