Man, I'm glad I switched to Mac OSX 11 years ago. I just look at the Win 10 PC my wife has and walk away
Not only that, I would have gone through at least 2 new PC's in that time trying to keep up to date with the speed hogging Win OS updates. My 2010 iMac will be retired soon but it still works well for most tasks.

I run WIN10 on a 2008 laptop with 4GB I use for weekends and travel, much faster and more reliable than the WIN XP it was designed for. Hardware upgrade was peanuts.

The new Win 11 will have huge hardware restrictions coming, so don’t think about an O/S change if you’re on anything like 2 core or earlier, I’ll stay with Win 8 for now..

P.S. My old Mac laptop is on Serra and Win XP, it works but Feckin crawls along… I better shut up or Mikling will say I’m bragging again..

Nope, that could lead to many problems where someone is trying to get a free upgrade when their machine is not capable of running the O/S..

Can you just see it… Win 11 Fubar my computer and lost all my files and photos and I can’t get them back.. You’re more likely to read the T&C’s if you have to pay for it…

I agree with the "nope" to free but doubt your reasoning. Similar situation with upgrading to Windows 10. Also, there were tools online and a downloadable file, as well as a built-in routine during installation to check for minimum requirements.

I think it should be free given the profitable data they can mine from us while we use MS products.

It will most likely be a free upgrade for current Windows 10 users.

However there are always ways to upgrade free if the hardware supports it. Like you can still get Windows 7 to upgrade to Windows 10 for free if right from Microsoft itself...that free upgrade that offered to Windows 7 users still works.

Completely agree... But how many filthy rich companies that you know give away their products free..
MS usually makes a balls of introducing their new O/S anyway..

It looks like the upgrade will be free for qualified computers running Windows 10. See this and scroll down to the FAQ.

Notice that a free upgrade is not a free OS. If your computer has not previously been running Windows 10 (or 7, 8 or 8.1?) you will have to buy a copy of Windows 11

The new OS will only be offered in a 64 bit version, so my laptop running 32 bit Windows 10 will not be qualified to the upgrade. It is 10 years old and came with both 32 and 64 bit Windows 7 restore DVDs. I have tried installing the 64 bit Windows 7 and that was not a success, so I think 64 bit Windows 11 won't work either.
