I always upgraded my Windows, once paid € 24 for WIN 8 PRO and since upgraded for free. Never had problems even not on old hardware.
And as already mentioned, all old software runs, so no complaints.

I agree, besides the usually growing pains figuring where they put certain functions.

While there are those who have had issues with basic layouts and updates, IMO Windows 10 Pro is the most stable and versatile GUI OS that MS has made for the general public.

I’m using Win 8.1 and will change when I’m told..
Sure, blame it on your son.

It's still free for you to upgrade.

You may want to consider it well before Windows 11 goes online in case MS decides to turn off the free upgrade spigot. You can revert back to 8.blah if you don't like it within 30 days. You can have Sonny Boyo image the drive before upgrading and then you can revert back anytime you want. :)

You're technically correct since 1.5 years is plural. The reality is Mainstream Support ended 1/2018 and your skimming by on Extended Support that ends 1/2023.

What's the difference in the support models?

Fine and dandy, I've got security updates, you say.

Why should you upgrade?

Because the opportunity to upgrade FREE to Windows 10 may not last when Windows 11 goes live. One never knows.

Take advantage of the free upgrade to windows 10 so you can then upgrade FREE to windows 11 one day.

Then again, if your son supplies the OS for you then it's a nothing-burger for you. ;)

My main workhorse computer can’t handle Win 11, so I’m sure he’ll think of something..:caf

Yeah, only my 2 newer AMD 3900X systems support fTPM but I think I'll need to run the MBR2GPT utility before Windows will accept enabling it. All my older systems Intel 2600k and back do not.

Windows 10 Pro and Enterprise is good enough for me until 2025.

EDIT: I build all my systems myself as well.
