There is an unofficial theme floating around (i think it was called something like aero-lite) which allows inactive windows title bas to be set as a different colour to the active one. Why MS did not offer one thereself i have no idea.

See post #91 for a link to this and post #92 for my test of this fix. After having made the fix you can use your own desktop background and change some colour settings.

Ah right i missed the link when reading that post doh! I also believe it has been edited further by some people im sure the item i read somewhere the titles in open windows had been altered from black to white text to make it clearer along with other tweaks.

The other way to do it would probably be this now......
https://www.syssel.net/hoefs/software_uxtheme.php?lang=en
then you can take your pick of themes all over the net

The easiest solution is to continue to use Win 7. Samsung state that their current software is only valid up to Win 8.1. So we'll have to wait for the upgrade.

So my original comment about MS and Samsung living on different planets is appropriate and @CakeHole's comment:-

"If you cloned your win 7 to the SSD and did it wrong that is your fault, if you did a fresh install and have played and altered settings to things not recommended that again im sorry to say is down to you, NOT MS or Samsung"

deserves a full apology.

Rapid mode in Samsung Magician is worth having, as is the additional "SS wear reduction" aspect of the software.

You still have not stated if you did a clean install and played with partition settings after or if you cloned an old HDD to your SSD.

If you played with system reserved partition sizes or any hidden partition size in any way at all that is your fault. There is no ifs or buts about that. Windows (ALL VERSIONS) warns you about doing so before you apply the changes. A computer will only do what you tell it to do, it does not think for itself.

If you cloned an old HDD to the SSD and as i have stated all along you used Samsungs software, IE this....
http://www.samsung.com/global/business/semiconductor/minisite/SSD/global/html/support/downloads.html

Then that software it makes clear has limitations, in fact far too many as mentioned in the PDF file....
http://www.samsung.com/global/busin...ng_SSD_Data_Migration_User_Manual_ENG_v27.pdf to be a reliable solution IMO. It clearly is not capable of correctly cloning certain partitions.

I did state also state here...

"ill withdraw the earlier not Samsungs fault statement as technically even though its not their software which was offered with SSDs they should had looked at it more before signing a deal for cloning software with a third party (in this case as said i think it was Norton)." Which will be about as close as i am going to get to forgiving them for blame.

As to Rapid Mode, from my reading that appears to be a bunch of nonsense. THE MAX SPEED your SSD or any drive can go at is down to 2 things A) the drive itself and B) the interface it is connected to. SATA has a real life limitation of around 550-600MBps transfer rate so the Samsung site that some magical software will make it 1200MBps is utter hogwash. Sounds to me more like additional bloat to install.

Has anyone else encountered MS trying to update from 7 to 10 without asking? Yes - I got a few of those annoying messages about a free update, but I always reject them. Today, I happened to look at the update history and found that they have decided to install the update anyway. Here is a screenshot showing that they have been trying every day - it started on August 3. Thank goodness that the update fails.

Also note that my computer was set to look for updates once/week, but they have been trying every day. I have another computer running Win 7, and they have also been trying on that machine, but only once/week. I have now turned off the auto update feature so that I have a chance to select which updates to select.

Right click on a "Failed" Upgrade to Windows 10 Home entry and then left click on View Details. Amongst the info in the pop up window will be an error code and maybe a helpful link for an explanation. Check all the failed listings to see if they are the same or different.

You can plug that error code into Google and hopefully get sufficient info to figure out what is happening. Post the error codes and explanations if possible so we can learn or help you further.

Example of error codes for Windows 10 upgrades/installs found at http://www.thewindowsclub.com/windows-10-installation-upgrade-errors

Why do you want to delete the windows folder?

@The Hat, I think your advice to leave updating to Win 10 for about a year is good. @stratman 's references really do open up the can of worms.
