It would need six patterns, starting with Y on the left, then K, etc.

Thank you!

This will work just fine on Epson 1400/30.

Thank you, but not quite... I should've been more specific, my bad. From L to R, it would be Y, K, LC, LM, M, C. I suppose I could try editing that TIFF and shifting the columns around - but I'm lazy!

Regards,

Paul

Wait a minute... that was dumb of me. It doesn't matter what order the columns are in! Duh!

So, thanks to both of you!

Thanks to you as well, @martin0reg. But I'm not quite sure what you mean... I see that these sources for the purge file also make available bars of just one solid color for each of the six colors. But if I am printing say just the cyan bar for example, how do other colors enter the test? Wouldn't that be due to a leak from the other carts?

Thanks for that link too... a very thorough collection of tips, for sure!

Regards,

Paul

there are colors and colors... in this case RGB from the file and CMYK from the ink.
As I have read, a magenta bar for example means the following values
R 255
G 0
B 255
now the printer will "translate" this to
C 33
M 78
Y 0
K 0

These values may vary depending on the "RIP" in the printer, but if you want to do exact measurements for ink mixing this can be a problem. For purging it's enough to get 80% (or more?) of one ink, and one nozzle row

I see... I never knew this. But - my next question is simply "Why?" What is the purpose of allowing the printer to make this alteration? Puzzling... !

inks - dye or pigment - never have the theoretical color values when you measure them , so a magenta ink never comes out as M=255 and C and Y at 0 CMY=0,255,0. So inks are mixed by the driver such that the color patch on paper comes as close as possible to that value. And various ink suppliers - OEM or 3rd party likely use slightly different dyes for their inks - with slight color variations to the OEM ink. The chemical industry offer a wide range of dyes for lots of printing purposes and with different characteristics - one of these is the light fastness - fading stability under UV/sun light and other environmental agents like ozone and others. These characteristics have a significant impact onto the cost of inks, and their prices. The only way to print 'clean' inks is by using RIP software which bypasses the printer driver and would let you access the nozzles directly.
