Professor @PeterBJ if you call it lucky to be rained on just about any day which comes straight in off the Atlantic then I suppose I do live in a soft water area, but I still use water filters for my drinking water..

Just use distilled water. It's cheap enough. Your tap water WILL contain quite a bit of calcium and other dissolved materials, especially if it comes from wells.

Well it was too good to be true. I printed quite a while yesterday and this morning i printed in greyscale only for a while. Now this evening started having streaks but it was still printing. Showing black and red needed refilling and after that the red won't reset. It stops flashing until I close the cover then yellow light starts flashing. The black has a steady light like it is ok until i close cover and then the light goes out...can't print at all now
I ordered a new print head today from http://www.charactercomputing.com/printheads.htm . I also ordered new OEM cartridges from Amazon....help please

I only see Oki and HP printheads listed on the site you refferenced.

Try Canon tomorrow to see if they can beat that price.

I have no other suggestions concerning resetting carts except to take them all out, close the lid, turn off the printer, turn it back on, and insert them on by one, closing the cover each time and letting it stop making "noises" between installs.

I may have missed it, but you do have a cartridge resetter for the CLi8 cartridges? I am not sure whether you are refilling your OEM cartridges or not.

Hi yes I have a resetter and am still refilling the original OEM cartridges. I have had the printer about 4 years and they are same cartridges.
