Hey everyone,

I’ve been thinking about trying out OrcaSlicer and wanted to hear your opinions. What has your experience been like with it?

Does it offer any significant advantages over slicers like PrusaSlicer, Bambu Studio, or Cura?

I’m curious about its performance in terms of print quality, support generation, and overall ease of use.

Would you recommend it for everyday printing, or is it better suited for specific use cases?

Any tips for getting the most out of it?

OrcaSlicer is a fork of Bambu Studio, which is a fork of Prusaslicer. I tried Orca when the scarf joints were introduced, and I was impressed by the performance. That feature may or may not have been introduced elsewhere since then.

In the past I've heard people say some algorithms in Cura are superior to the other offerings, but I cannot remember the specifics. I'm sure there are many in depth video's out there explaining all of it.

Personally I resorted back to Creality software for my modified Ender3 KE because I ran into an issue with the other slicers that I didn't have with the original software, but I cannot remember what it was. It's been a bit since I've printed something that isn't 2D.

You could just try all of them and benchmark the performance for your printer, if you have a common model most slicers have built in profiles that work decent enough without much tweaking.

I think about switching from Cura to Orca slicer a lot. In fact, Angus is a big fan (and I really respect him).

... BUT, Cura is able to print direct to my Ender 3 V3 SE via USB, and since the vast majority of my prints are quick/tiny, it's just way too easy to send them via USB than any other options (with this printer as-is).

So, maybe someday when I move to a different printer that supports network printing, etc., I'll fully convert to Orca slicer.

If it Ain’t broke, why make yourself miserable..:)
I found when your printer is in the sweet spot then it marginalise what slicer is used..

I have been trying Orca slicer in place of Bambu Studio and noticed some advantages Orca appears to have over the Bambu version, using Bambu P1S

I tend to agree if you are happy with your current system then why bother, however IMO there is nothing lost in trying something new if you see that there may be some advantages quality/speed wise

I have not noticed nor tried to compare any "print quality" differences but my assumption is with the same settings in both slicers that there will be no difference, however I think Orca may have a few options that may be worthwhile considering

It seems to print a little faster than same model in Bambu

I like the calibration modules included in the slicer for convenience

Orca seems to get updates/improvements before they are included in Bambu if they are included at all.

Latest version I am looking at explained here
https://github.com/SoftFever/OrcaSlicer/releases

Overall I am happy to use either but I think that Orca may well nudge Bambu out of the way

I think the problem is that Orca have not yet produced a profile for your printer? If that is the case and if you really want to try Orca would this user generated profile get you started?
