When does the firmware upgrade take place?
It appears that the Epson printer tries to upgrade the firmware when the 'almost empty' screen is shown.
This screen dump shows a similar screen, but the carts aren't empty yet.
The upgrade takes place when the box 'buy Epson ink' is ticked or the box 'details' below that marked with the blue arrow.
So don't tick any boxes in this screen. An ink warning is just a signal that it's time to refill the cartridges.
Make sure that automatic updates are switched off. Note that your ARC chipped cartridges should be produced after the driver date.
The drivers below are dated 2012, so the ARC chips bought after 2012 should work properly.
