I have 2 that just went "Low"... 56.10 grams and the second is 54.68 grams.
So it’s very easy to install an aftermarket cart in the wrong position, and if that happens then you’ll get the dreaded fatal error warning requiring some very serious intervention on your part or a trip to Canon Service. Ouch...
It would be advisable not to use aftermarket carts for refilling, stick with refilling the OEM’s and avoid many of the pitfalls that aftermarket carts can bring...
YES> Sure DId. It was also verfied by the status monitor with the X above the Magenta with the wrong chip. That being the case the chips I have are golden. Then not all chips are the same.That’s was an interesting scenario you set up and tried @mikling, but the chip problem will only occur when an unsuspected carless owner installs the wrong cartridge and chip (Aftermarket) in the wrong position. (Very easily done)
In your test case you used an OEM cartridge and just the wrong chip, but and this is the important thing, did you close both ink doors after the installation ? This will allow the printer to initialise and recognise the complete cartridges set, once that happens, you better not have the fan turned on.
It’s not the type of chip that causes this error, but the printer itself...

@mikling, that sound like great news, no matter which way you did it, now while you’re still in test mode, can your machine enter Service Mode ?YES> Sure DId. I'm sometimes crazy not that crazy yet. Only If I need to. I won't push it cause I got the second life when Jose guided me how to get over the lockup on startup.@mikling, that sound like great news, no matter which way you did it, now while you’re still in test mode, can your machine enter Service Mode ?
