I currently have a Canon pixma mp610 and love it. I like the fact that I can refill the carts with no issues. It's primary use was to print to DVD's

I'm in the market for another printer I realize things have changed a great deal but I need a scanner/printer and want the ability to refill the carts.

I would like some suggestions.

Depends on what is the scan quality you need! I personally use a stand alone scanner and printer, so I can replace / repair only the one, when is needed!

I got home today and my mother decided on buying a printer without asking me first.

So she bought a Canon MG 6220

On my current printer I use precision ink. I went to there site and they do carry ink for the MG 6220. My question, is the process the same to refill them as it is for my Canon mp610? I guess the real issue is the carts are not see thru.

Well unfortunately my mother bought the Canon MG 6220 without speaking with me first.

Having the MP610 I have to say its a breeze to refill. I use precisioncolors.com for my Ink.

My question is now what is different besides the fact the Carts are all black? I see precision also offers the resetter.

You need to know how much you can inject in an opaque empty cartridge; this wasn't required for transparent cartridges. Once you learn and practice that, it won't be an issue.

There are two ways you can refill with your new MG 6220 printer,
one is to master the art of refilling the new opaque 225/226 cartridges as panos suggested.

The other is to get yourself an empty set of 220/221 + one extra cartridge for the grey,
swap the chips over to them when your 225/226s are empty and a new resetter for the 225/226 chip.

That way you have the perfect setup, it will feel much the same as refilling your old CLI-8 cartridges
which you are use to only a little bit smaller thats all.
Happy Refilling..:)

So the 220 cart takes the place of the PGI-225

and the 221 take the place of the CLI-226

Is the gray cart the odd ball because I don't see that a lot in the 221's ??

I have seen a picture describing how to take of the chip and swap but I haven't read up on what type of glue or substance is used to secure the chip.

You can use any of the dye cartridges for grey just give it a good clean till the water comes out clear,
the best one would be the CLI-221BK if you can get two of them.

You shouldnt need any glue to hold the chip in place on the replacement cartridges
if you are careful removing just the one little plastic nipple.
But if you want to be sure that your chip cant possibly move then any universal glue will do it doesnt matter..:)

Once again uncle The Hat is too modest to link his own tutorial on chip swapping, so I'll link it here . :/

Thanks guys. You always help me out. Especially with my mp610.

On a side note which printer should mother have chose? She loved my MP610 so I assume thats why she rushed out and bought the MG 6220 that and the fact she read great reviews on it.
