1. Before I buy CLI 521m/y/c/bk & PGI 520bk ink that my current Canon Pixma iP4700 uses, I would like to know if it is safe to fill my Canon Pixma iP4700 cartridges from the remaining 100mL of Canon BCI- 3 /-5 /-8 m/y/c/bk + pigment bk ink that was used to fill my previous printer cartridges.
Q. I know I could use my remaining Canon BCI- 3 /-5 /-8 ink to fill my Canon Pixma iP4700 cartridges, but should I?

2. There are Chips on the cartridges for my Canon Pixma iP4700 to tell the printer software how much ink is left and drive the LEDs .
Q. If I refill cartridges that are not empty (still show ink present during printing) will the level show full again when they are refilled or do the chips always need to be reset?

3. I have seen posts about keeping the printheads cool with a continuous ink flow.
When my Cartridges show empty (cross in red circle) it will still print and the results are as good as when the cartridges are full.
Q. Is it dangerous to continue printing long after the Ink Level Indication shows empty? (cross in red circle) or will it stop printing before the cartridge is really empty.

The iP4700 will work with the older inks but you may have a slight colour shift for the original inks.

If you refill your cartridges to full again, your on screen ink levels will not change so the answer is yes youll need a resetter to reset the chips to full also.

It is good practice to refill your cartridges when they register low ink (Yellow triangle) and not wait for the red x,
yes there is still ink left in your cartridge at that point but only on original new OEM unfilled cartridges is it guaranteed that the printer will actually stop.

Epson, Canon, HP... A "few"
Critical piece of information to consider...

If the old ink supply is older than 2 years, I'd consider getting replacement new ink to avoid potential problems with algae build up or other expiration issues.

Funny you should say that, cause some of mine is over 3 years old and still works great.
And no I am not getting any more ink from you this side of the New Year.

So feck off and Merry Christmas to you websnail..

The Hat,
websnail,

Thank you for your prompt replies, my questions have been answered completely.
In view of your comment about chip resetting, could you advise where to get a resetter?

Merry Xmas and New Year good wishes to you both.

As we dont know where in the world youre based you could try (UK) http://www.octoink.co.uk/categories/Refill-Tools{47}Kits/Chip-Resetters/
Or in the (US) http://stores.ebay.com/PrecisionCol...186675011&_sid=98545621&_trksid=p4634.c0.m322

Get yourself a resetter and then you too will have a happy Refilling Christmas..
