I am a Singaporean and is currently looking for a printer to meet my requirements. My printer does not need to be able to print fast or be able to handle intensive printing. But I require it to be able to produce high-quality color photos*.My budget is around S$200.Hoping for someone to tell me which specification to look for or recommend any models. Thanks!

Additional questions:
-Can I use a printer to print on cardboard?*(If yes, which type and where do I buy them?)
-Should I use toner or inkjet?
-The type of ink and paper I should use to produce high quality colour photos?

In general, inkjet photo quality printers are tops for color photo printing in the price range you desire. Printer inks and papers can be quite expensive if you print a lot. Certainly your first print will be the most expensive! However, you may be limited to the SIZE of the print to no larger than 8 1/2" wide in that price range. Also you need to consider how the prints will be displayed to assure you get acceptable life.

There are currently two popular ink types when photo printing

DYE INKS which typically have more vibrant colors but a shorter lifetime in bright display conditions.

PIGMENT INKS which are less vibrant, but have a longer lifetime.

Most paper paths in printers in your price range will NOT handle thick stock (cardboard). It would be better to mount the print on thicker stock after printing.

The selection of photo papers on the market is VERY extensive. Print size, surface finish (matte, gloss, etc) and availability in your area will be a better guide, although typically the best results are EASIEST to obtain with the printer OEM's own inks and papers.

The main providers (OEM's) of printers are currently EPSON and CANON. Either brand will do fine. If you do not need scanning, copying, or faxing, a single purpose printer is recommended. Multi-function printers have a nasty habit of becoming a boat anchor when one function fails.

Is there any reason you cannot use a printing service provider in your area, instead?

I do not know anything about printers and stuffs,I just want to look for a printer for casual printing, but I want printer which is able to print higher quality photos for future uses,I would prefer pigment inks after your discription for both,

Is normal printer possible to print on cardboard-like materials?

For the printing service provider,is not it very expensive?

No inkljet printer in your price point will handle paper as thick as typical cardboard.

You should check out the price of local printing services. Here in the US they can be VERY competitive with printing your own. The only issue is "wait time". If you need the print NOW, then you print it yourself.

It will suffice. Note that it uses dye color inks, not pigment.

Be aware that an inkjet printer must be used every few weeks to keep the ink nozzles functional.
