WIN 11 migration - dinosaur printers ??

full disclosure, a "printer hoarder" here

i have several active dinosaur printers running on WIN 10:
- MX700(2007)
- MP980(2008)
- MX870(2010)
- PRO-100(2013)
- stored backup printers: IP4500, MX700, MX860, MX870, MP980

i remember having issues getting them to work on WIN10, but finally got them all working, see:

has anyone been able to get these models working on WIN 11 ?? looks like W10 support drops oct 2025

Are you sure the WIN10 drivers will not work for WIN11? The big problem was upgrading from x32 to x64, when there were no drivers for win64. However I have even that solved, you can make any winx32 dinosaur or not printer work with latest WIN10 or WIN11 x64 without having proper x32 drivers. However you need to have a dedicated print server PC and some paid software.

i don't have a WIN11 machine as of now to test on, was just trying to see of someone else has attempted it.

then again not sure how many dinosaur printers like mine are still printing.

i have downloaded the drivers i used for WIN10, just in case canon decides to remove the download links, fingers crossed that they will work on WIN11

Your right to be worried, because your print drivers most likely won’t load in Win 11, unfortunately @stratman would have been the main man to ask, but alas he’s no longer with us..

He was a good guy and one in a million..

I have the PRO-9500 II and PRO-10 (not the -S model) on WIN11 without any issues.
The PRO-10 prints (as does the Maxify) also via Wifi from a laptop with 2024H2 and Android phones and tablet.

PRO-100 should work also.

yes, there is a WIN11 driver for the pro-100, none for my other dinosaur printers, only the WIN8's that i used to get them to work with WIN10

might be a moot point, since all my PCs are not WIN11 upgrade-able. there are workarounds, but will wait to see if MSFT extends the 10/2025 date or if they offer any other options.

thx for the tips, would hate to lose these classic easy to refill dinosaur printers

last count over 2100 refills in 17 years refilling

since all my PCs are not WIN11 upgrade-able. there are workarounds,

Microsoft will be offering a one year extension to win 10 for $30, if you think that will help. Your right it’s not the printer that will have the problem with Win 11, it will be your computer..

My five cents: Stay with WIn10. Nothing in Win11 is worth the hassle to update. As for Win10 support ending Oct2025, my copy of WIn10 hasn't been updated since 2019 and it runs without any problem.

thx, i saw the $30 one year W10 support per PC offer, will see if MSFT changes it's tune when it get closer to 10/2025.

would prefer to stay w W10, i'm in no rush to go to W11.

looks like others running W11 have had success installing the WIN8.1(x64) drivers using compatibility mode for the MX870, MX860, not sure about my 17 year old MX700 and MP980s
