I have never experienced any problem that would be solved by purging but that is because I have only ever refilled my BCI-6 cartridges once--I have so many virgin cartridges that I bought off eBay a long time ago. I also have very little experience with CLI-8 carts.

The BCI-6 and CLI-8s are the same cartridges with a label name change and chip added that is all.
The CLI-8 cartridge can be used in the printer in place of a BCI-6s if none of the latter are available.. :)

Except that at least the magenta has a different shade of ink in it. I'm not sure about the cyan.

Image Specialists does indeed offer a different magenta ink for Canon CLI-8("6121") and BCI-6("6053").....:|

The cyan and yellow inks appear common to both.

Websnail, Mikling, chime in about this question!:)

Tinkering with just the magenta ink is in my mind just that, if no consideration is taken
for the yellow, cyan and the shade of photo black that goes to make up the limited cymk colour spectrum.

But thats not what I was on about, as I have several different Canon printers where I use the same brand of ink in all of them.
It would be totally unworkable to have a range of different colours for each individual printer that I use.
At the end of the day the results that I get are more than satisfactory with the setup that I use.
Anyway It would end in disaster trying to keep track of which colour goes where, (like a child in a sweet shop).. :(

A different part number does not mean anything. You will never know how much is really different the ink is with a new part number. The auto parts industry has played the trick for tens of years. When cyan and yellow are unchanged how can magenta be changed alone? CMY are primary colors. If you change one the other two are affected.

Does anyone have any comments about this video from Ink Jet Carts?
I have seen that particular video before and was not impressed by it at all,
now seeing it a second time it tends to grow on you thats for sure.

I can say without a dough that I would never use that type of cartridge and refill method,
but it seems to work for Ross so who am I to knock it after all hes the expert..
