Is it possible to scan without having ink installed with the Canon PIXMA MP510?

I do not have a black ink cartridge installed.

I do not wish I buy a black ink cartridge just to be able to scan.

Windows shows: "Printer maintenance is in progress. Scan after it is complete. Code : 2,114,0"

The printer screen shows "U043" and "The following ink tank cannot be recognized."

Pressing and holding the red "cancel" button for 5-10 seconds has not done anything.

Pretty sure you have to have a that PGI-5 ink cartridge installed before you can scan.

You need all the cartridges installed with either recognized or overridden ink levels. If you don't care about damaging your print head then find an empty black cartridge and override the no ink/empty warning.
