Refillable CanonBCI 3/6 series cartridge with lots of features

This link describes a 'valve type' spongeless cart.Still not sure how the length of the neck of the problem cart conributes to the problem inasmuch as the other carts in the printer seem to work.Perhaps something to do with the air vent setup?

Setting aside the fact that this is a spongeless tank, if I hold a filled tank in my hand it does not leak ink from the exit port.
Why does inserting it into the printer cause the ink to leak away?
Puzzled!!Anyone??

Looking at the design of this "spongeless" - it still operates like a sponged cartridge at the exit port- as the third picture in my series shows there is some sponge in the exit port. There is no valve in this design. True it doesn't leak in its resting state unless something is directly touching the exit port sponge.

Ink will leak due to the wick effect if anything is touching the sponge and if the rim of the exit port is not pushed up tightly against the washers in the printhead ink will gradually leak out. I propose this is more likely if the neck of the exit port is shorter than OEM.

But why are the other tanks working ok if the same design flaw appears in all of them?

What method does the printer use to transfer the juice from the tank to the paper?I supposed that the outlet sponge contacts a corresponding sponge in the printhead, but because the printer is not in use (and the seal which you mention is working) ink does not flow.

Thank goodness that these Canon spongeless tanks have no 'spigot valves', because they baffle me completely.Are they supposed to work like the toilet tank?

Jackson's link led me to the MIS Associate site that I have long not been to. After a quick browsing I have to ask why some of you folks here on this forum buy from MIS. I can agree maybe their ink is so special and derserves a hefty payment from you. But when I saw their chip resetter for Epson priced at $19.95 I really have to ask, the exact samething is sold on eBay for only a few bucks. What makes them to ask for such a price? AM I a fool to ask such a question here? Does their ink really worth that much? A prefilled spongeless Epson 1280 black cartridge selling at $14 a pop? Guess most of us here are Canon users. Any one has an answer for that?

hp - MIS Canon bulk inks are priced fairly close to Formulabs. Hobbicolors are cheaper when factoring in the blank carts that come with them in their kits. All three are so much cheaper than OEM that, in my opinion, the difference in cost between them only matters if you print extremely high volume.

I don't have a clue about the cost of Epson chip resetters. If the one available on ebay works just the same as the MIS unit than you would be wise to buy the ebay item. I would hope that the ebay resetter you mention can be returned or replaced if it doesn't work as advertised. MIS is one of the vendors of aftermarket inks/carts that has a good reputation for their products and service. That fact does not preclude being a good consumer and evaluating quality and price before buying!

I have experienced the same problem you described in your posted photo.

I have mentioned to the distributor, but they wanted me to mail them a sample of the AcuJet cartridges to compare. As far as I am concerned, they can purchase the AcuJet themselves if they want to compare.

I have over 100 SkyHorse cartridges that I cannot use because of the same problem, the neck is to short and the printhead will take-in air or leak.

To date I have found the AcuJet Empties to be the best, and I have tried many. Swome AcuJet cartridges I have refilled over 50 times.

The only problem I have with AcuJet is their plugs, which they use metal balls, and they bottom caps, wich their new cartridges come with a clue strip and no cap. Aside from that I find their empties to be best.

Fotofreek: I heard that the chip resetter for Epson is basically all the same except the external fitting (plastic grid or something like that) is arranged differently for fitting different Epson cartridges. I have seen regualrly a vendor in my local flea market (in De Anza College) selling 3rd party Epson cartridges. He sells an Epson chip resetter too at only $7 or $8 I forgot. I saw him demo'ed it once. It was pretty cool. Took only 5 seconds to reset a cart. Becuase he is there once a month. I have no doubt if I buy one from him that is DOA I will be able to exchange by just visiting the flea market next month. He might have a phone number I can call if I need it sooner than a month. All I am saying is $19.95 at MIS is really way over priced. It's really the samething made in China. OK, there may be newer versions to reset newer chips from Epson. But I don't see price being different. Nontheless I have no clue why $19.95 honestly. If I get a DOA resetter from MIS I will still have to pay for shipping to send it back and get an exchange. Unlike my cousin who bought a HP PC online and received a defective speaker. After calling HP within a few days HP came and swapped the speaker for her free of charge.

RC thanks for your comments. Sounds as though you have had more experience withtthese cartridges than I have. This was the first set I had used.I used the BCI 3eBLK, BCI 6Y, BCI 6C, BCI 6M in a MP730. The MP730 is listed to take BCI 3C/Y/M colors rather than the BCI 6C/Y/M but my understanding is that these cartridges are physically the same.

Can I follow this thru further, was your experience with only the color cartridges or did the black leak as well? What was the cartridge and printer model?

My initial measurement ( which I need to confirm)n was that the SkyHorse BCI 3eblk neck is of comparable lenth to the OEM cartridge it is just the color cartridges that are shorter.

Alotofthings sell these cartridges, I wonder if they have had heard of these problems.

I am in Australia and was going to order 100 pcs direct from SkyHorse in China, but now want to see this problem corrected. Maybe I should pout this problem in its own thread as it is a bit hidden here.

Thanks for your tip on Acujet refillable cartridges. Not sure they are available here in Australia. Presumably they are a sponged cartridge, will they have a limitation on the number of refills as the sponge clogsup/ accumulates air?

I have had problems with both, BCI-3 and BCI-6. The cartridges are identical, and it does not matter what printer you are using, I have tried them on I-960, I-860 and IP-5000. the dimensions of the printhead are the same.

As for the Acujet cartridges, they are with the sponge, but I have not had one fail to date, they last very long.

Another factor to be taking under consideration is the ink you are using. I find that I experience very few clogs with Formulabs Ink. If you are satisfied with the color results you get from it, then I recommend it. I have also been using their printhead cleaner and I find it to be superb. That is my experience with it. Some like Image Specialist and MIS ink, but I have had nothing but clogs with this ink.

As for Acujet, I do not know if they ship to Australia, but I have a feeling that they might.

It is worth contacting them.

I may be mistaking, but I thik Granddad has had the same results as I.

Did you verify that your leaking tank had a shorter neck than the OEM, because I used 'screen caliper' on your photo and they are the same length?Still don't know how one tank leaks because of a short neck and the others don't.Beats me how the company stays in business.I'm beat.
