Quality ICC profiles if key for easy printing getting what you see on your monitor, but your monitor must be profiled too, and preferably certified to know it does not lie. Else it's possible to getting into rabbit hole of "I profile it so it shows correct colors" when if fact is can't even show them

The monitor is a ViewSonic VP3256-4K that I got manufacturer refurbished:

They advertise as factory calibrated. The gamma is looking goofy out of the box, otherwise I'm pretty happy with it. I should be receiving the i1 Studio in a few days, looking forward to profiling it then.

There are some restrictions to tlhis aproach - printer and monitor are independent output devices and don't know of each other how they reproduce colors. Keep in mind that the gamuts of monitor and printer are not identical, they only overlap partially, and viewing conditions are typically different - an image on a monitor is typically viewed at a higher brightness than a print at ambient light - not even to mention the viewing color temperature.

I thought everything is getting esier - simpler now with AI ..........am I missing something ?

Issues and limitations of softproofing print output on a monitor was subject of several
forum threads already over time.

I finally received the i1Studio the other day. I've had a chance to try it with 3 monitor calibration packages:
1) Calibrite ccStudio
2) ViewSonic Colorbration+
3) DisplayCAL

Out of all three I found ccStudio to be the easiest to use and give the most consistent results between 2 monitors.

Colobration was quick and easy to use as well, but it's proprietary and I was only able to use it on the one monitor. I found the results slightly higher contrast and cooler.

DisplayCAL gave me very different results between the 2 monitors. The ViewSonic looked fairly accurate if not a bit dim, but the older monitor came out yellowish/green. I tried a few variations on the settings but no improvement. It was a real challenge setting up the device, disabling windows security features, manually installing custom drivers, and overall troubleshooting. Along with the longer calibration times, and more technical settings, it's much harder to use.

Either way, my monitors are looking a lot better than they did previous and I feel much more confident about the color accuracy. I think the i1Studio is a good choice so far because of its compatibility and range of options.

I'm still waiting on the replacement printhead for my printer. I'm looking forward to profiling it when the time comes.

Calibrite ccStudio does not work with i1pro spectrophotometer or any other instrument other then their i1Display clones so not usable for me.

basICColor Software - bankrupt, sold etc. Germans were charging so much that the truth is everyone pirated their software that's why they got bust IMHO.

DisplayCAL is a mess, not able to set display brightness like with older Measuretool is making this tool very limited with PWM monitors or any monitors where you want lower brighness profile made like for reading.

I posted in their forum, but no help with it. The custom cdm2 settings in it does not adjust anything by themselves.
