Why not get a chip resetter and a set of OEM Canon XL cartridges? No more worries, at least the ones expressed in the thread.

That's what I was originally asking. Where do I get a resetter for these chips and what is the best way to refill these carts. These carts are different than previous version carts.

I wouldn't buy ink on eBay, but since all hardware is manufactured in China, why not buy there.

No experience with this resetter (since I live in Europe and ours have other chips) but I bought recently refillable carts for my Maxify (no resetter for this printer) of much better design than what is sold by resellers in the western world. It was delivered free within a week.

Otherwise on aliexpress:

These resetters are limited to 100 resets (20 refills of 5 carts).
In Europe the 550-551 resetters are now available with unlimited resets for about 10 USD more. Don't know if they exist for the States.

Google search on Canon and the model number of the printer and the words chip resetter, eg "Canon MC922 chip resetter". Make sure it resets the XL cartridge models.

It appears there are resetters that will do unlimited chip resets available in the US.

At those prices a redsetter and a set of XL cartridges would cost more than the price of a new Pro 10 / 100 printer...
In the US only ....

Indeed, compared to the previous series 520/521 and 525/526 (change the first position into a 2 for US) the resetter is (a bit) more expensive.
I've collected a substantial stock of 525/526 OEM carts over the years for free, since there still are people who buy and throw away 550/551 XL's you must be able to find them also.
Since all third party dye inks fade rather fast, I am reducing my (Canon) dye printers in favor to pigment.

It’s a pity I couldn’t do the same with my auld memory to stop it fading too fast... :barnie
Hmm. Pigment ink instead of milk for breakfast, I wonder does that work...

They only reset when the printer has driven the electronic level to empty . I would NEVER tell you to run them dry and actually propose you top them off occasionally.
Exactly. I have a set of PC 250/251 carts. When one starts to go low, I top them all off.
