"Hi All,

Several posters have mentioned that the waste ink pads in the Canon Pro-100 are not user replaceable. Well, would you believe that I bought a new set of waste ink pads for only $19? OK, before you think I've been smoking some of the funny weed, here's the story.

It turns out that many users online have been taking advantage of the Canon $250 rebate on the Pro-100. This gives them the printer package at a total cost of $150. They've then been parting out the components, putting the ink package on eBay, getting about $90, and the printhead on eBay for an average of $80. At this point, they've already made $20 above original cost.

Now, they have to get rid of the printer body - and here's where the deals are to be had - if shipping costs are reasonable. Many of these printers are going on eBay, brand new and unused, for under $20. Wow - how could I resist, especially when I found one for $19 and only five miles away - so no shipping costs. As such, not only do I have a new set of waste ink pads, I've also got a complete new printer body that contains them!

This opportunity won't last long, so if you're interested, check out the current eBay listings, and look for one that is close enough to you for local pick up without shipping charges.

How many prints does one have to make on the Pro100 before the waste pads need replacing?

I realise it is variable so I don;t want to worry about it until it is imminent.

At the moment I have approx 3,300 prints on mine. Have avoided borderless and change all carts at once to minimize cleaning cycles.

Had a minor issue couple of years back and ran couple of deep cleaning cycles. That prompted me to buy spare head which I have not had to use.

@Roy Sletcher, you have done all you can to minimise the amount of ink that's going to the waste pads, but you can always check how much it has filled in that time instead of guessing, that is if it will allow you too.

Turbguy, have you figured out how to disassemble a Pro-100? I have a couple now with the dreaded " Absorber Full " warning. We sent one off to the shop and they couldn't get the parts, and they're a factory depot! I've read about people doing their own cleaning on the old 9000's and I'd like to try this on one of our 100's before it goes in the bin.

Nope. Never tried to disassemble a PRO-100.

Has anybody checked to see if all these Pro 100’s will actually enter Service Mode..?
That's the $64,000 question..

I'm in the Chicago area, and I see the Canon Pro-100, still in the box, on Craigslist for $100 all day long. Currently, I have several and was thinking of purchasing more, just to sell off the ink and print head so I can have a spare body just for this waste ink issue. If I can make $70 (after the purchase) by parting out the ink and print head AND get a package of Canon Semi-Gloss 13x19... why not?

I would love to know how to enter Service Mode also!

A couple of years ago the Pro-1 Pro-10 and Pro-100 printers could enter service mode by the procedure involving pressing the Stop/Resume button five times:

i. With the printer power turned off, while pressing the Resume/Cancel button, press and hold the Power button. (DO NOT release the buttons).
ii. When the Power LED lights in green, while holding the Power and Resume/Cancel button, release the Resume/Cancel button. (DO NOT release the Power button.)
iii. While holding the Power button, press and release the Resume/Cancel button 5 times, and then release the Power button. (Each time the Resume/Cancel button is pressed, the Alarm and Power LEDs light alternately, Alarm in orange and Power in green, starting with Alarm LED.)
iv. When the Power LED lights steadily in green, the printer is ready for the service mode operation.

Here and here is confirmation that the procedures worked back then.
But the printers have come in more revisions and maybe with different firmware versions, so the procedure might not work any more.
