Thanks again Mr Hat! Ah so this may not be the scary ink absorber issue but possibly scarier. . 
really appreciate all the good tips here. Will have to sit down and go through this and look at the tools in more detail when i come ba k from my trip (at the airport now) . Also will pm ypu regarding the more detailed surgery of the pro1. I have to see what it looks like in there... at least if it dies it will be in the name of science Cheers!
