the PGI-5/CLi-8 and the older CLI-6 printers are far superior to the lilliput size CLI-526 printers with inferior rails and heavily cleaning cycles to dump ink and to saturate the ink absorption cushions.

Maybe these printers are the last Canons who can be refilled easily, the old ones won't live forever.

The 525/526's with 5 cartridges have an ink consumption comparable with the PRO9500 (but much cheaper refill ink).

I have now the top model MG8250 with 6 inks that has the reputation to guzzle ink, I will see.

Photo quality is outstanding, it makes very decent 35mm film scans and prints from the cloud :).
Nobody wants a printer only with USB cable anymore !

i'm fine with USB, especially if the printer's ink carts are the easily refillable PGI5/CLI8 generation.

i do have one problem, i stockpiled a few spares back in the day, but my current MP830 just keeps printing and printing......

new PGI5/CLI8 spare printers include:
- MP830
- IP4500
- MX700

the MX700 has both USB and ethernet, 4 carts, no CLI8-BK, picked up 2 of them refurbished from canon for $59 each

anyone have any experience using the MX700 ?

MP830:
- 7 years old
- 60,000 pages printed
- D = 60%
- purchased refurbished for $99 directly from canon

any other printer longevity numbers ?

This printer is very robust since it can print CD's and has the metal shaft linear printhead motion rail.
The last printer I remember with such heavy build quality is HP920C has even more thick shaft and huge carts (by todays cart size).

That's impressive, and the only recorded errors are "1000" which is a harmless operator call meaning no paper.

I wonder who has the oldest Canon printer still going strong? :)

I have BJC-2100, with color and BW printheads ready to fill with ink. The printer reconditioned by me and not used.
