There are all great comments. I'm getting my questions answered & questions I hadn't thought of until now. I can see my choice is coming down to sticking to Canon so I can easily refil with the same dye inks I'm using now or turn my office into a real print shop & get an Epson with pigment inks. There are advantages to both of course. But for instance right now I can't print on a dvd. I need to do that. Prices on all of this equipment is so reasonable that initial cost is hardly a consideration. I saw an Epson 2200 on Craigslist, hardly used, with new unopened ink tanks for $125. The printer is basicly free. But I dread repeating the learning curve with Epson that I've just been through (and am still going through) with Canon. I'm a photographer!! I just wanted to print my pictures!! I guess it's a happy problem. Thanks again for the feedback. I'll post any decision.

Printing on DVDs can be achieved with most of the US Canon printers but not all.
There are firmware cheats available on some web-sites and you can get a tray on EBay for about $28 so alls not lost.
Were spoiled here in the EU as most of the Canon printers have DVD printing enabled as standard, but at three to four times the price of an US compatible printer.. :(

The Epson 2200 is a good pigment printer. It is much slower (about 25% as fast) as your pro9000, although with a waste ink tank it should in theory last longer than the pro9000.

(SHAMELESS PLUG) My highly used Epson 2200 just died last night. I have about $150 worth of ConeColor ink and a set of refillable cartridges for the printer. If you end up getting a 2200 $30 + shipping and they're yours.

See http://damnprinter.com/ to determine Canon USA printers capable of printing on disks, CD Tray needed (usually purchased from eBay), and guide to driver setup. The newest models are still mostly untested/unverified.

Epson and HP have models that print on disks without any monkey business of buying a CD tray or fooling with software setups.

Thank the boneheads at Canon. Maybe they're still pissed about WWII.

Thanks again to you both. I'm slowly narrowing down my choices. If I can get my Canon Pro 9000 to print on dvd's that's a factor. And if the Epson 2200 is slower than my 9000 that's a big factor. I met today with the powers that be at the church (that would be the secretary) & they guarenteed me the help in getting the newsletter folded & mailed. So I guess I have a print job. The next issue is coming up soon so I will print it on my 9000 & if all goes as planned I'll look around for a printer but I could wait until June to decide. My IT consultant-that's my son-strongly advises against spending even a dime on equipment that cannot run on Windows 7 64 bit. He's right. I will be upgrading my main photo processing computer to that OS very soon. I'll let everybody know how this goes. And thanks again.

Both the Pro9000 & Epson 2200 work on Windows 7 x64. That's what I'm running currently.

If speed is top priority then the 2200 is not your printer. I would only get one if print longevity is a top priority.
