Stocked up last month on Aldi here in Belgium, but nothing from Lidl.
Sad, IMO the Sihl takes pigment better.
Aldi fades rather fast with dyes too.
I think that fading with dye inks is more dependent on the ink than on the paper. This test by @martin0reg here and my tests here and here suggests this. I still have some Netbit and United Office (Sihl) paper so I could do a comparison test using these papers and IS inks for PGI-520/CLI-521 cartridges using a Canon MP620 that's in perfect condition.

I think that fading with dye inks is more dependent on the ink than on the paper...
So do I..but there may be some cheap and thin cast coated "inkjet paper" on which ink fades really fast...

BTW my actual test of fotonic XG ink for canon is on plain paper and on aldi/sihl.

I just try to post 2 links, so you can compare two comparisons directly by clicking the tabs, if you open the links on new tabs.
unexposed prints on the left and exposed / faded on the right (after 7 days):

1 fotonic XG (above) vs. MIS (below) - on some thick plain paper, uncoated

2 canon BCI-1411 (above) vs. fotonic XG (below) - on aldi-sihl 280g semiglossy

The test is now running in the second week.

Regarding the two papers offered by Aldi, Sihl and Netbit, I want to point out another difference:
- the sihl doesn''t take as much ink as the netbit, has a lower ink limit.
I realized this when printing with DL ink: with HQ settings there was ink puddling in dark or black areas on the Sihl, but not on the Netbit.

I only can refer to my only fading tests , with the Sihl and Netbit papers, both paper and ink have impact on the fading performance, please see my findings here in posting # 184 and previous ones

And yes, the Sihl paper has a lower ink limit than the Netbit paper. I have not seen the Netbit paper at any other shop, the Sihl paper is available at the Sihl online shop at a higher price - 6.80€ instead of 4,99€ at Aldi for 50 sheets A4.

I have just printed two sets of test images, on Sihl and on Netbit paper. One set will be kept in a dark drawer, one set will be exposed to UV light using the bug zapper lamp. I used the "Printer Evaluation Image" that has been used in more fading tests.

I used printers MP620 using IS refill inks for PGI-520/CLI-521 from Octoinkjet and a MG5550 using cheap compatible PGI-550/CLI-551 cartridges from a Danish supplier. The cartridges were only DKK 13 = 1.95 USD = 1.75 Euro a piece, they look like these, but for the 550 series instead of the 570 series. I don't understand the price difference, but the 570/571 chips must be more expensive.

I used Quality = Automatic and Settings = Default for all the prints. Media = Photo paper Plus Glossy II. No corrections were applied in the printer drivers. Here is a scan of the prints before UV exposure, click to enlarge :

Sihl-Netbit 1.jpg

Top left is compatible cartridges on Sihl paper, bottom left is compatible cartridges on Netbit paper. Top right is IS inks on Sihl paper and bottom right is IS inks on Netbit paper. Notice difference in colours between the two brands of paper. Also notice that the difference between the two brands of paper is larger for the compatible cartridges. I will show the results of the fading test after one or two weeks when fading will be clearly visible.

that's quite a difference between the inks left and right to start with, the left images show less saturation in the reds and a pretty poor black level. Let's see what your tests will deliver.

This tread seems to have faded from Aldi Photo Paper to a new fade test section, it’s a good job the moderators are not watching.

I will await your results @PeterBJ...;)

we probably need a separate category for threads discussing material performance - fading of inks on papers, gloss optimizer etc
