Well, this might the holy grail of printers: A2, both blacks loaded at the same time (not switching needed), ABW (3 levels of black/grey/light grey), gloss optimizer and the extended colors of the R800/R1800: red (orange) and blue (purple) and user removable ink waste tank.

I think the CISS version of the chips show constantly full. This makes more sense with a CISS with ink containers larger than the cartridges. No need to reset chips, but you must watch the ink levels to avoid running out of ink.

I'm not sure, but I think I read that explanation somewhere as I was searching for info about after market chips and refillable and single use cartridges for the much more modest Canon MG5550 which uses the PG550/CLI-551 cartridges.

Actually with these large cartridges it should be possible to make some construction by building a prism or floating ball that bounces a light ray emitted from a LED inside the cartridge and giving a pulse to a chip saying: ink is running out. It can be done directly to the printer by sending a pulse marking the affected cartridge as being empty.

Before the Original Redsetter for PGI-5/CLI-8 cartridges was introduced one had to disable the ink level monitoring when using refilled cartridges. Periodic visual inspection of the ink levels was then necessary. Luckily these cartridges are transparent.

I remember someone designing an ink low alarm for the printers using these cartridges. An extra IR reflective sensor was mounted inside the printer so the prisms of the cartridges passed over it. If an empty ink reservoir on one ore more cartridges was detected by the prism becoming reflective a red warning led was lit. This alarm was elegant as it was housed in a small box with a USB connector attached, so it could be inserted into and powered from the printer's Pictbridge (USB) port. There was even a kit offered on E bay.

IIRC a such device was mentioned on the druckerchannel forum by a user named "Apotheker". @pharmacist : Were you the inventor?

But using refilled and modified cartridges on a Canon printer voids the warranty. Who would dare doing that with such an expensive printer as the Pro 1000?

If I were to buy and run a Pro 1000, I would much prefer the CISS type chip on the OEM carts, they would only need an occasional check for each cart by weighing them, far better than the lousy one time chip, I had the one-time chips on the Pro 1 and they were a pain in the butt.

These carts are very much like the Pro Graf 6400 models, which were also very easy to refill...

Nozzle redundancy and vacuum hold down are also significant. The former is a hint of the processing power contained within and the latter is of real benefit on a wide carriage machine that has the printhead very close to the media.

This printer similar to the Pro-100 has been overlooked by the mainstream reviewers. There is a ton of stuff under the covers of this nice machine, if you're a printer enthusiast, everything you complained about printers in the past appears to be addressed but it also introduces some new ones of its own.
I'll be setting mine up soon after I read through the details in the manual. This will be one of the first printers that I will read the manual before starting up!

First thing, before setting this machine up is that it needs "bigly" commitment ......find a permanent spot for it. You'll find out why in due course.
