I have no idea about the chips on the OCE machine but the 6400 that I had
it was just a matter of disabling the ink monitoring and getting on with it.

There are now however Chips available for all of these large format printers,
compatible cartridges plus inks too, they can be got on Alibaba.com if your care to look.

It's better to leave the printer switched on when not in use because
these printers tend to waste a lot of ink when used with the ink monitoring disabled..:(

Hello everyone, this is my first post!

You'll be glad to know this is the only place on the web that seems to know anything about the OCE CS2024 and its similarity to the Canon W6400!

I work in an architecture firm where printing is obviously paramount and our OCE does a great job, however, running costs on this thing are astronomical!

The Hat, i need a few specifics:

1. If i order a bunch of W6400 'full' chips, which i have managed to source, will they work with the 2024 assuming i replace the chips correctly?
2. Where can i order the ink to fill them myself from? Or is it a standard ink that can be filled at cartridge world? and what type of ink does it take?
3. If i disable the ink monitoring can i use 'empty' cartridges that still have ink in them? How do i disable the ink monitoring?

But really any information you can give me will be helpful!

Thanks in advance,
David

Hi David,
I will try to answer all of the questions for you, so here goes.

The W6400 inks will work in your printer but I dont know if the cartridge nozzles
are exactly the same as the ones on the OCE cartridges. (Best to check.)

You can change over the chip to get it to accept the replacement Canon cart but they are just as expensive
as the original OCE cartridges are so why would you go to all that bother, just use your OCE carts.

I originally used inks from inkjetcarts.us in my W6400D, my inks were pigment and I think yours are dye
but without knowing the OCE cartridge catalogue number I cant be 100% sure. (Only 99%)

Its just a bog standard 6 colour dye inkset that is made by Image specialists
which can be bought at any good ink suppliers, try at precisioncolors.com/
Email them first with your detailed request.

I use to disable the ink monitoring on my W6400 also, and you can find out how to do this in your Manual that came with the printer,
I had to go through several different screens to get to the ink setup section
and when you reach it just hold down the enter button when prompted too for each cartridge.

Refilling the cartridges is straight forward enough just remember to pull the air out before putting the ink in,
its best to weigh an empty cartridge before refilling it and then afterward when full,
that way youll have a perfect record of the empty/full cartridge for future reference. (Saves guessing)

If you intend to disable the ink monitoring it is best not to turn off the printer when not in use
otherwise on power up the printer will run a deep clean cycle and waste a load of ink unnecessarily.

Hope this is helpful to you..

First off, thanks very much for taking the time to reply. That is extremely helpful.

Now, the original idea was to use the W6400 chips i located in refilled OCE carts so that the ink levels would still be monitored but i dont know if the OCE will accept the CANON chips. I also dont know the cost per carton of the chips yet so i might just bury the idea and go forward with weighing the cartridges every now and again. If you are at all interested in pursuing this, this is the potential canon chip source: (www.)alibaba(.com)/product-gs /257333017/Compatible_Chip_for_Canon_W6200_W6400(.html) (just remove the brackets)

Right, so i have found the option in the menu to do the Stop Ink Check on the individual carts, which is a major leap forward! The oce carts catalogue numbers for the carts all begin with OCE IJC224 and end with their respective colour C,PC,M,PM,Yellow,Bk (as read from the carts). Now all I need to do is find a UK source for ink filling. I have sent a few e-mails around regarding the type of ink unless you happen to know from that what they are?

Quick question, do you happen to know if the printer will carryout its deep clean cycle when it wakes from standby? We leave it on 24/7 but it goes into a power save mode after a period of inactivity.

Thanks again for your response.

The canon 6400 chips wont work in your OCE and all youll get from them is expensive OEM inks.

Now depending on what youre printing onto (which surface) your printer uses coloured dye inks
but the black can be either pigment or dye in that you have a choice.

http://www.compredia.co.uk/oce-ink-cartridge-black-29952208-ijc224.html

If you want to get compatible inks/cartridges then you can try (compredia) or the site that barfl2 mentioned
but to order from OctoInkjet youll have to Email them first requesting which type of ink you require,
a complete set of 6 inks will the same price as just one cartridge.

As your cartridges take 130 ml youll need to get at least a 250 ml bottle of each colour dye ink to get started,
you never mentioned how full your maintenance tank is either,
you cant disable the maintenance tank chip so youll have to get a new one of those..

Epson, Canon, HP... A "few"
Right you lot, I got the query but as I don't know about this model I'm also at your mercy as to which are the best inks to supply.

Presumably when referring to a dye ink you mean Canon dye's rather than the Canon W6400 compatibles which are pigment.

Would I be correct in thinking that the current crop of Canon dye inks for the Pro 9000 would be appropriate for the appropriate colours with the exception of the black which could be dye black (1109) or pigment (1020)... If pigment might it be prudent to provide the KMP universal given it's more forgiving across the Canon Pixma range and therefore likely to be equally forgiving for this model?

@David... Once I have this information I'll be able to give you more info' on what I have/haven't got but the irony of this post isn't lost on me.. :)

Cheers folks.

Martin
