Thanks for the reply.
Are there any gotchas with resetting empty 225/226 chips? For example epson 3880s can only be reset if above 15%.
I'll probably have parents buy OEM carts for couple rounds and when i have several sets of 225/226 chips i'll do the 220/221 conversion.
I suggested a place where you can get good quality inks and empty carts in the earlier post above
i.e. Precisioncolor and with refilling instructions also.

Now that USB resetter you got is the correct one for the 225/226 chips and the good news is
you wont need an extra one for the 221/220 carts at all.

When it comes to refilling the Canon cart, forget about Epson cartridges altogether because they are so different it wont help you,
besides Refilling the Canon cartridge is so much easier.

As far as refilling these cartridges are concerned there are no hidden things to catch you out
so just follow the instructions you got and youll have no problem.

Resetting the cartridges is the very same (No gotchas) you can reset them anytime,
half full or empty your choice and the chip will also last indefinitely, its all win win..:)

Thanks for the info. I have been refilling for about 3 years now and i've done HP (tri-color is a pain in tha...) as well as epson 3880 refillable carts.
Cannon carts sound like a walk in the park, but i am sure there are gotchas unique to cannon.

The precicioncolor ebay store is closed for holidays, but i found their website. It seems 5/6 inks for cannon 6220 are dye. Dyes usually have better gamut, but worse color fastness than pigment inks. This is why i asked if there is a preferred ink set, perhaps there is a pigment set that is usable in 6220?
I think i'll just tell the parents to buy oem carts for now and once they have couple sets i'll refill/reset it for them.

Knowing how to refill the HP or Epson carts is not a real help as I said the Canon cartridges
and more so their print heads have totally different requirements than the other two.

OK Ill relent there is a gotchas regarding the refilling of their carts and that is to stick to the known refilling instructions
and reframe from putting your own interpretation on how it should be done, and then it is a walk in the park.

This is why i asked if there is a preferred ink set, perhaps there is a pigment set that is usable in 6220?
The MG6220 is a dye ink printer with one pigment black cart dedicated to text printing only
so please dont try it on pigment inks it simply wont work for you, it is not an Epson.

If you want a Canon printer with pigment inks then go for the Pro 9500 or Pro 10 printers,
their cartridges are the easiest of all cartridges to refill and could probability be done blind fold it.
