Getting Fingers Dirty
Hello all,
I have just joined today in order to find out more about servicing printers, as this seems to be a very useful resource.
My current printer is a Canon MP500. We've had it for 7 years now, and it has been in almost continuous use. Previously I have owned Epson and HP printers. Apart from an HP Deskjet 870Cxi this has been by far the most reliable and best quality, and definitely the least greedy on ink.
The printer had not printed colour correctly since about August 2013, although black text remained unaffected. I replaced the print head resulting in some improvement, then finally bit the bullet and opened up the case, taking it down to the machine unit to clear out the waste ink purging system, with help from this forum, elsewhere on t'Interweb, and a Canon service manual. This is my most serious work on it to date, and I hope it all functions correctly when it finally goes back together!
