Does this mean both the banding AND nozzle check issues are resolved?

The question remains ink or cartridge was the problem.

That's the question !

I tried to rinse the PGI-72M cartridge that caused the problem according to @The Hat 's instructions, but could not get the outlet maze clean.
It is understandable this can cause feed problems and banding.
So I took a PGI-9 cartridge (that already was rinsed and with a white outlet), rinsed with a few ml Octo PGI-72M, refilled and transplanted the chip.
Will see.

I reprinted the image with the dark blue sky again in HIGH quality, and the very visible banding seen before is gone.
There still are still irregularities, but maybe this is posterisation.
Also the wiping on top of the tree right is not as it should be.
Maybe the wrong quantity of ink is laid.
I will review the paper settings (actually Platinum PRO).
Also should not focus too much on one image.

The nozzle checks before and after are flawless, believe me, without any cleaning instructions (other than done after the cartridge changes).
This IMO would not be possible if there was a clog building up in the printhead.

The cartridge that caused the banding was an OEM refilled for the second time.
I can't remember in all my years with the 9500 using exactly the same cartridges that I could not rinse a cartridge to white (although this was seldom needed, I did it only when changing inks to avoid strange reactions).

Concentrating on the Magenta ink to get a better idea...

  • What was the date the Magenta was purchased?
  • What is the 'best used by' or 'expiration' date on the bottle?
  • How long ago was the Magenta opened?
  • How many total refills had you done with that bottle of Magenta?
  • In what container was the Magenta stored and in what environmental conditions?
  • What refill technique was used?
  • What is the history of the cartridge: Were you the sole owner since it was new or did you buy used, how long was it between the cartridge emptied and its refill (ie how long stored) and how was it stored before the refill?

  • What was the date the Magenta was purchased? 7/11/2019
  • What is the 'best used by' or 'expiration' date on the bottle? "Stock ref 2019 sep 05"
  • How long ago was the Magenta opened? 5 weeks
  • How many total refills had you done with that bottle of Magenta? 2
  • In what container was the Magenta stored and in what environmental conditions? squeeze bottle 125 ml/ambient temp
  • What refill technique was used? drip method
  • What is the history of the cartridge: Were you the sole owner since it was new or did you buy used, how long was it between the cartridge emptied and its refill (ie how long stored) and how was it stored before the refill? bought empty on eBay, no idea but general condition was good and profiling showed recovered ink was OEM, no issues with other carts in same lot

@palombian - thank you for the great answers.

In a different thread I read that @websnail is investigating things on his end and has asked people with Magenta issues PM or email him the batch lot or reference number displayed on the bottle.

It is good you and the others have brought this to his attention and we are fortunate to have websnail be wonderfully responsive to his customer's concerns.

This seems to be the only potential link to your issues, other than the Magenta ink itself. Who knows if there are contaminants that might alter ink characteristics.

the oem magenta pgi 72 cart needs to flush out 10 times with cleaning solution.... water only will not help, just to get cleaning solution out.
